Went back to vets so he could check Smartie's leg out as a little swollen, and skin red and still not trying to use it!!, doen't think there is an infection, cream for red skin then cover with a sock then more pain killers as this might then encourage him to put it down, swelling from taking the support off, Smartie fine in himself but no way putting that foot down!!!!

 Poor Smartie, he is having a rough time. Hopefully he will get more confident in time and start using his leg. :luck:

Oh POOR SMARTIE :huggles: That looks really sore.

A lot of people on K9 swear by Manuka Honey for help with healing. I bought a pot (expensive) but have not had the need to use it yet. Holland and Barrett sell it and the strong 20% + is about £20 . A little bit does go a long way however.

:huggles: :huggles: :huggles: for Smartie

Just wondering how Smartie is doing? I hope the leg is a bit more comfortable now :luck:

Back to vets again, swelling going down and skin improving but still not trying to use it so now we have to move the joint 20 to thirty times twice a day!!, I don't want to!, the vet did it and he didn't yelp but feel cruel, also blood taken to see if there is an infection in the joint :( I hope not fingers crossed :luck: , results tomorrow and my vet is going to speak to the surgeon that did the op!, please start using it Smartie!!!!!!

Oh poor you!! It is so difficult to do anything with them that you think may cause them any pain, I don't envy you. Bless him, he is probably wary after so long in the splint when he couldn't use his leg. Is there no canine equivalent to physio? Much too early to consider atm but maybe hydrotherapy in the future? Wishing you and Smartie loads of :luck: :luck: :luck: x

No infection yipee, just need him to start using it!!!!

Vet spoke to surgeon may be 6 to 8 weeks before putting his foot down, may be the plate inside rubbing if this doesn't settle may need it removing but early days yet. On holidays next week  so see if we can get him in the sea for it to help his leg, ;) just one thing .... he hates water!!!. blind fold i think, bless him

Hope you enjoy your holiday and that Smartie manages a little paddle! His leg doesn't look nearly as red and sore now. :))

You must feel like you need a holiday by now! Hopefully the sea air will get to Smartie and make him feel like exploring a little. Good luck, - you have worked so hard with him and he is lucky to have you. :luck: :luck: :luck:

Smartie's leg looks so much better already :D Enjoy your holiday :huggles:

sorry to read about smartie i hope he is feeling better

my puppy broke her leg recently it has heeled realy well i gave her a herbal remedycalled comfrey that did help a lot its for broken bones

Bless him

Smartie is such a beautiful fellow. The leg is looking a lot better. Hopefully the reluctance to put weight on his leg is due to a lack of confisence after all the pain he has been through and not anything sinsiter like the plates being a problem. I know humans sometimes get adhesions where the tissue adheres to the plates but hopefully it is not this. Enjoy your holiday. It will do you all the world of good.

thanks for the well wish's will show u all the photo's and let u know how he got on when we are back xxx
