mmm, my friend has hens/chickens...........she calls them chickens...........they lay eggs..........so does that mean they are not chickens

I think lots of people refer to them as chickens Helen...

I just tell the kids at the farm the proper term is Hen...because a chicken is ready for the oven (without feathers).

and a chick is a baby one... :p and a daddy is a Cockerell

What a totally brilliant lesson Janis (w00t) love it Hely (w00t) :- "

Very beautiful hens you have there - they've grown into lovely looking birds...not going to become chicken I hope (w00t)

Well thanks Janis, cos even though I am a country girl through and through, I never knew that about hens and chickens.....my neighbours who have foul call them chickens.

are'nt they lovely...i would recommend chickens.. hens to anyone as i have two just like the ones you have and they lay an egg each everyday..ones having a egg break which i found its normal for hen to have a break from laying

the kids wanted to have chicks but neither had gone broody so im on the look for two baby chicks or bantums

ive learnt something today too, cause i didnt know that either

Now all weekend I been saying I am gonna keep myself some chickens when we move into our new house as we have some woodland and they'd be happy up there... but now I know it ain't chickens I need... as they'd be cold running about with no feathers on... I need to get myself some HENS

Learnt a great lesson there... thank you :huggles:
