I just want to say big public thank you to Cristina Fornasier for her sportsmanship this weekend. Not many people would do this....

My Dino has been sore in the rear for a few weeks now - he has not even been able to win a reserve challenge at our last few shows and I haven't been able to pinpoint exactly where the soreness is and I've tried quite a few things short of taking him to the vet or a manipulator (which I am hesitant to do as I'm not really a believer in manipulators). He's not exactly limping but he's not been extending the way he normally does.

There were only three people showing whippets at Moranbah this weekend, Cristina, myself and Frank Philp. Knowing full well that the judge on Sunday liked my dog and had put him up before, Cristina still offered me a tube of Voltaren (something I hadn't tried) on Saturday night to try to help ease whatever is ailing Dino. Dino's only other competition were Cristina's two dogs. Who do you know who would help you out in this situation? She didn't have to. She could have shut her mouth, let Dino continue to be sore, and taken the challenge herself with one of her boys. But she helped me out and Dino took dog challenge.

I am so very grateful Cris - firstly that you did this, ultimately at your own expense, and that I am now confident that it is only a bit of muscle soreness in the groin and not anything more serious.

This is what dog showing is all about.

Lovely post Lana. Really restores your faith in human nature something like that.

Good onya Cristina and to you also Lana for appreciating her efforts.

Hope Dino is back to his old self in the not too distant future.

I had a similar goodwill gesture in Tasmania some time ago with a fellow whippet exhibitor (PARNEW), my Spanner was not quite right when I lifted her off the table and gave a couple of hops in her gait and Griff kindly went over her and found the niggling spot and she did require a little bit of muscle manipulation and was instantly healed :D

There are kind folk out there amongst the hustle and bustle.

aww! what a lovely story its good to know there are some people who show just for the love of it rather than their need to win :huggles: :huggles:

Lana, thank you for the thank you, I really don't know what to say...... except all you really needed to do was help me with those damn triagles at Mackay grounds :p

I appreciate what you've written. :)

What a nice touch Lana, great to hear. I hate to see any dog sore least of all whippets, my years in racing greyhounds serve me well when it comes to putting dogs back together and I learnt from one of the best, it works if you know what you are doing, I'm pleased your Dino is back in winning form.

Noelene knows how I feel about sore whippets and even when Spanner was on her winning run beating us I still put her back together because friendship and sportsmanship in the breed is what makes showing grand, Thank you for you kind words Noelene and you know that I'll always offer to help you and your dogs where I can. Well done today with Rackie and Tink, would of liked to have been there instead of work, but must pay the bills and other things. ;) :- " :- "

Wouldn't it be great to see more post like this on K9.

good on yer Cristina  and Well done Dino :huggles:

what a good sport

What a lovely thread  - really lovely to hear people enjoying their sport with their dogs, but remembering that it is just a game, and the dogs welfare is far more important. Well done to Cristina, Griff and Lana

I think Cristina should be awarded `Sportsperson of the month`

BTW what is Voltaren ?

well done with Dino too

Lovely posts from lovely people - keep it up and well done

Yes I second that - Cristina sportsperson of the month

Voltaren is an "emulgel" - emulsion gel for muscle pain. It's for humans but it certainly helped Dino quite a bit. He wasn't back to his former glory but he was a heap better than the day before.

It's not like "Deep Heat" that gets hot on the muscle - it goes on cool and stays cool - I tried it on myself before I put it on him. Another product that people have recommended is "Rapid Gel" - haven't tried that one yet.

Voltarol

Yep - packaging looks very similar from what I recall.

Lana, that's a lovely story and what true sportsmanship was shown. :huggles: Do you think it will be better if I come and massage Dino's leg for him?, if I win the lottery on Wednesday I could be with you by Sunday.
