I am fostering Misty +Fog. collected them 19th Dec. They were in a very poor state much much too thin esp. Misty, and VERY stressed. My vet examined Misty on 21st Dec.. She was painfully thin, has a very sore mouth + a heart murrmer. Both have settled with my 5 quite well. Getting them to eat has been hard but we are getting there. Both have improved already and are relaxed enough to greet visitor to the house. Liz Third visited today and they were pleased to see her (although they had never met her before). The girls will be staying with us until the "ideal" turns up.
Aww well done Jean.D  you deserve a medal - love and hugs to the girls. :huggles: :luck:

I'm so pleased to hear they are in a foster home and are settling well. I'm sure they are now getting all the love and care that they deserve.

any chance of somne pictures of these lovely old ladies ?

I'm so pleased that they are settling in for you Jean, I had just heard about them and contacted Sandra in Southport to offer a resting place - when she rang back it was to tell me that they were on there way up to you!!  How can anyone let 2 mature ladies get into that state? People never fail to turn my stomach with their neglect of such loving, gentle dogs. The good thing about you taking them is that it left me free to take on Mia, a whippet X for my local rescue - everything happens for a reason!! Please keep us up to date with them.

I thought the owners died?

Yes, thank you so much Jean. I feel so much happier now, knowing that these two girls are ok.

I didn't see this thread earlier but today I noticed the advert on lurcher link dated 18 Dec (http://www.lurcher.org/llink/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4228 )

I thought I might as well refresh these messages as it seems the oul' girls are in a foster home but might like something quieter or the fosterer might like to be free to take on other dogs. Go to the first message for background and contact info.; the photos are on this page.

The names remind be of two other whippets that needed homed a while back. One was called Rain and the other - I'm not sure , Shadow?

Fortunately they've been rehomed now but I believe their companion Winter is still looking for someone/where

Thanks for bumping Misty + Fogs situatuion. I am their foster mum, had them since 15th Dec. Misty is 14 and the light one. Fog is 11 and fawn. They were not as healthy as was thought, very thin and anxious when they came. Settling has taken time particularly for Misty. I was so worried about her I took her to my vet within 2 days. He found her mouth to be very sore and a heart murrmer. We agreed that we needed to get to know her and get some weight on to her berfore we took any action. So far she does not have a heart cough thank goodness. As time has gone on we have found that she has a very "ikky" tummy so feeding is limited. Fog, so far, seems good for her age and is gaining weight well. We will have to take action about Misty;'s mouth soon as sometimes even coming against something hurts, poor scone. Thanks for all the support etc will keep you posted. Jean.

That is so sad. Hope it turns out OK for the two old girlies.

Well done Jean for fostering them.

I'm sure it will be stating the obvious but if Misty has a sore mouth she would prefer soft food to biscuits, and we can recommend AMP as they deliver frozen minced dog food which is really easy to defrost. Our 5 dogs all love it and are thriving on it. I can give you the number if you are interested. It might encourage Misty to eat a bit more and being a 'natural' diet might suit her stomach better?

Give them both a big hug from us and let them know that just because we cant take them ourselves doesnt mean we arent thinking of them and keeping our fingers crossed that they get a home of their own very soon. :huggles:

thats so true rae,ive been thinking of these two oldies for a while and worrying what would happen to them.hope they find a forever home for their last years.fingers crossed :luck: :luck: :luck: :)
