Took my whippet out with his Brother a week last Sunday and all fine. Then from that afternoon my dog became lethargic, shivery not eating and only taking minimal fluids. Vet said his temp was 3 degrees higher than it should have been!, no sickness or diarrhoea. Had injection of anti inflammatory to bring temp down then antibiotic. He picked up then went downhill again. :( This time temp 4 degrees higher!, bloods taken and another antibiotic injection. Thought he would have to be admitted as not drinking but after a great deal of tempting we managed to get him to drink. he is now slowly picking up. He had us very worried as normally full of life. He is now eating small amounts and going for walks but only short ones as he lost weight and was weak.

Has anyone had anything similar. Bloods just showed raised white cells which is a sign of infection. Rabbits here have Mixi but that shouldn't affect the dogs. His brother didn't get anything

My pup Archie had a similar thing about a month ago (not quite as bad as your dog though) ....and there are quite a few other K9 members whos dogs were ill with something like this too.

Have a look at Chills topics about Soloman - he had a very similar virus a while ago - he's recovered now, and also Sarahloveland's Blue had something wrong with similar symptoms

Hope your lad gets better soon :luck: :huggles:

Thanks for the reply and the links to people who had similar issues with their dogs. Smartie is now fully recoved  if not a little lighter in weight and takes his last antibiotic today. His brother never got it which is strange.

Hi Shane, glad to hear your boy is getting better now. My Solly was very ill for a couple of weeks, so much so that we thought we were going to lose him. All he was showing was a very high temperature and nothing else was significant enough in the test for them to conclude what was wrong with him. I am sure you have probably read my thread by now. Anyway he is fine now thank goodness, but it did take me a few weeks to get the weight back on him. Glad all is ok with you again now - its such a worry isn't it.

Seems to be a few nasty bugs going about in the K9 world at the moment :(

Pleased to hear that your boy is on the mend :)
