We went to see cavapoo puppies locally. Am i doing something wrong?

Hi all,

New to the forum, never owned a dog before, family of 4 from Lytham St. Annes, NW UK.
Looking for a Cavapoo in the next few months.

We went to Longview Kennels & Cattery, a highly rated, five star, local council (Fylde) certified breeder today to view some Cavapoos.
They're KC registered and the place has hundreds of great reviews on Facebook & Google. As well as Pets4Homes.

However, we saw three puppies, the lady brought them in blankets and let us hold them, they're only 5 weeks so very small (we're looking at taking one at around 10 weeks).

We didn't see the mum, didn't think to ask, and she brought us them separately.
The building is big, and the place is locally known.

Did we do wrong? Facebook warriors have shot us down for not asking to see the mum and then also not seeing them all at once to see who gravitated towards us.

Any advice appreciated. Many thanks

I would be wary of this situation.
I would expect to see the puppies interacting with their mum and litter siblings and then making their own choice of greeting you.
Do either of the parents have any health certificates to be seen?
I would say "BEWARE"

What do you mean they are KC registered, the breeders or the cross breed puppies !

Hi, haven’t posted here for a while, this thread caught my eye, had a quick look at their website and dispare when reading the usual hype from people breeding these cross breeds...being healthier for one, is absolute rubbish, it does not matter what breed you are breeding from, if you have not health tested the parents of the pups for ALL know health issues, and the breeding stock is “ clear” from said conditions, you can NOT claim, they will be healthier than their pure bred cousins. For instance has the cavalier got health certificates to say it’s clear from syringomyelia, they also suffer heart ,hip and luxating patella not to mention the health issues with the other breeds. You can only eradicate health problems in breeds by doing health and DNA testing. By crossing two breeds together and if both breeds suffer the same genetic problems I.E eye disease such as PRA, only genetic testing can gaurantee clear results. Has your breeder. provided ALL records on both parents to prove they have done the necessary tests. Remember you will have this pup hopefully for at least 10 years or more, you surely want to buy the healthiest you can. BTW , the pups will not be KC registered so your breeder is misinforming you on this....

To my knowledge you can register cross breeds with the kennel club. So they can be kc registered , just not pedigree dogs.

Rinkydinkydo, yes cross breeds can be registered but only on the activates register and its each individual dog that's registered not a litter.

@Biker John ... I've no idea how it work mate, I just seem to remember that you could register them.
So could they register every individual pup with the kennel club before they are sold.

The activity register is not the same thing as the KC data base register that breeders record the heritage and health of pure bred dogs. The activity register is there for anyone who wished to compete in any activity such as agility which will be held under KC rules. Unfortunately some breeders who are breeding crossbreeds are misleading new owners that the activity register is “thee” register. For instance dogs that compete at Crufts in obedience, flyball, agility, will all have been registered by their owners to compete .
