What Do You All Use For Bruising

ive been using arnica on kiplin for the last 3 days and its helping with his bruising,but is there anything else that can be used as his leg is still causing him a lot of bother because the bruising is very deep there. any advise plaease :huggles:

these where taken this morning

his chest is getting better quickly but as lost a stitch this morning so need to see what the vet says about that

noticed the bruising as to come out at the side of his willy yet too.

Oh poor love! I haven't got any advice to offer but that bruising does look nasty. I suppose you could try arnica tablets as well as gel/cream but I don't know if you can overdose on it?

im giving 3 tablets per day as the vet advised,and they are helping with the pain to some degree, he supposed to stop the arnica today but going to give it until tomorrow when we go have a checkup again.

will give him a hug when he wakes :thumbsup:

That is the sort of damage I'd expect to see if one of my dogs got trampled/kicked about by a horse - there's not any horses or cattle nearby where he was are there??

no cattle jane but we saw a deer the day before this happened and he could have been chasing one or a few of them??? but would a deer stop and have a go back???

Yes, if with a fawn or maybe if it was a stag, but it would only need to be a glancing blow which could happen if Kiplin was running in between their legs and got caught. It doesn't take much to rip whippie skin and a running deer would not put much weight on him so maybe that's why no bones broken?

Seems a more likely explanation given the bruising he has suffered :blink:

thats very interesting jane as all his bruising runs down one side of him and i thought if he had jumped and landed on anything he would have had more cuts and grazes.

we havent seen the deer for months until last wednesday when one just ran out infront of us :sweating: then was chased by all 5 whippies but they soon lost sight of it and came back quickly.

i was told last year the stag managed to fall into the river and ended up quite far away from the area and the rescuers got him out and moved him to another area altogether,weve never seen a adult male there.

Poor Kipling that is plenty bruising..

the worst bruisng I encountered was when Chip was attacked by another dog...then Trish I used arnica gel and witchazel and arnica tablets which the vet perscribed also.

His bruising went pretty quickly...I suppose it always looks worse when its on the skin surface like this

I think that he's got under the hooves of one of them and been cuffed and rolled over. The injury to his chest is probably where the hoof knocked him as the deer ran over him, same with the hind leg but not heavily enough to tear the skin. Also probably only a small deer which limited the damage!

We've got loads of deer in the woods around us - they'll travel for miles so you can never keep them in one place.

That's why foot and mouth spreads so quickly where we are ..... the deer carry it from farm to farm

Arnica cream, but not on any parts where the skin is broken because it will inflame it, applied liberally at least three times daily.

Poor chap he really has been in the wars, my big white and blue whippet had very similar injuries when he ran full tilt into a large block of granite. He put a rabbit up, took off, chased it up the bridle way and ran into this block. I thought he'd broken his shoulder, he had massive bruising along his brisket, inside his thigh, stitches in his shoulder. He got over it eventually,it took ages, I gave him arnica and aloe vera for the sore bits. Good luck, he'll get better :huggles:

Like bertha I have always use Arnica & Aloe Vera gel on the broken skin bits. Poor Kiplin. I hope he has a speedy recovery

poor kiplin... i use aloe vera for cuts etc. either in its pure form or aloe vera gel from the chemist :thumbsup:

Poor Kip all that bruising he must be really sore

I would put some witch hazel on the bruising (not on the open wounds) and some lavender oil on the wounds to help the healing, but it sounds like you are doing all the right things :thumbsup:
