Fully support the difficult decision that Scruples have had to make here. None of us have endless pockets and rescues are exactly the same. We can't make money appear just becasue we want to, or because we see heartbreaking situations in front of us. It would be very irresponsible for Scruples to take on this bitch not knowing if they could do right by her. It is not unknown for 'rescues' to bite off more than they can chew and need rescuing themsleves, which does nothing for the long term stability of dogs who are passed from pillar to post. If other people feel they can help, then that's brilliant and good luck to them, but we can't expect Scruples to be the saviour of every dog we see in dire circumstances. These situations will just get more common if unscrupulous owners expect rescues to buy their dogs every time. They should be grateful to be escaping the expense and work, not making money out of it.It is naturally one of those situations that will get people's emotions running high but having little digs about Scruples when they have done nothing short of a miracle over the past two weeks is a bit low IMO.
very good post, Annie and Jane have been brilliant in getting scuples off the ground  so i didnt take kindly to eve's post tbh.

in your 1st post on here eve, i didnt read anything that lead me to believe that you yourself was willing to purchase this bitch and home her..

also to abort a pregnancy via injection is not always the best option as i have read of some cases bitches go on to have deformed puppies rather than aborting them, so speying would be a safer more sensible option imo.

we could all search the internet for pregnant bitches for sale and come up with 100's i should think :(

Actually I think you would find it rather difficult to find pregnant bitches for sale on the internet . I regularly look at these freeads sites and in the last 5 years I have only seen 3 pregnant bitches for sale . A previous one , then Molly then this one . Of course I do not look at all breeds . I put the original post on because I was so appalled . :(
Alison I'm sure you're right that there are relatively few whippet bitches in whelp advertised as for sale through the free ads, where you will sometimes see them though is on forums dedicated to hunting with dogs ... sadly sales of this kind are not as rare as you might think. But regardless of whether the whippet advertised is pregnant, old or ill ... it is people like you, bringing them to the attention of K9ers, who help to ensure better futures for them

this is my personnal opinion for what its worth jane and annie have done a wonderful up until now with taking on molly,

first she was in dire need to find somewhere safe aswell as her pups, this new bitch is a first of many that you will see being peddled

unfourtunately you can't rescue everyone

but if a person really wants to rescue a dog and get it back to where ever they live then their are ways and means painted lady and myself sorted out the transport of a bitch and had her delivered from ireland, greyhound transporters work all over the country and in ireland so you see it can be done without others help

but i do think trying to make others feel guilty by not helping is the wrong way about it, i think jane has enough on her plate what with work, her own dogs plus molly and her pups,

so eve..if you are willing to fund this rescue why approach scruples who are miles away for a start from this bitch..i am confused here  when we decided to bring my slip over from n.ireland we contacted a greyhound transporter and it was all sorted within minutes..she was brought over in a couple of days and it was no bother....very reasonable price to...i can give you his number if you like.......

Lets not get into another silly argument on here pleeeeeeeeese :sweating:

ok alison i haven't for moment thought you put this thread on to cause any aggro, but people should get off their soap boxes and do what they think is best,

not get all huffy cos they can't get the recognition they think they deserve, on the backs of others

It would be fantastic if someone could help with the logistics of purchase and transport if it is required. I cannot drive long distances but hope that someone may be able to meet me around Annandale if transport can be arranged. The seller may also be looking for cash. The sellers phone is still switched off so I am no further forward at present .

Please be assured of my continued support for the work you are all doing at Scruples
Good luck - I hope you can get in touch with the current owner and get this lovely wee whippet into a safe situation :luck: I'm in Fife so might be able to help with a leg of the journey - PM me if that would be useful

I approached Scruples initally to see if they could help. I was for obvious reasons a bit dissapointed in their reply as I did think I had made it clear that I was willing to help financially and offer her a home. I felt therefore that they were just not interested and were being just too 'selective' in what constitutes a whippet in need of help. Unfortunately, my e mail was obviously not clear and that is my mistake which I fully accept. I have already e mailed Jane to apologise for the confusion. I was quite aware at the outset that Jane could not take on this bitch herself.

I approached Scruples because they have a network slowly building up of volunteers for transport, etc. Molly herself was transported in relay hundreds of miles. I am in Scotland and this bitch is in Mersyside and it is a logistical problem for me as I cannot drive long distance. I quite realise the financial problems Scruples face. I had not thought of using a greyhound transporter (it is however a possibility if absoultely necessary as a last resort). In addition to 'buying her' , vets bills, the probable need for innoculations etc paying for a professional transporter would add to the cost. I am offering to ensure her future but I am not made of money.

I think we should let this matter rest. I will do what I can to help this whippet and Scruples will continue to have my full support.

I have had a few offers of help with transport none as yet ideal. Thanks to those of you who have offered.

If anyone out there can help with transport I will start a new post if or when I have managed to resolve this girlies situation.

Eve has posted that she would like this topic to rest and I have therefore decided to close it. Eve has said she will start a new topic should she need to and I know that anyone wishing to offer help will pm Eve.
