Montee hes named after Colin Mongomrey the golfer

Buffee , her grand dad was Badger so it had to start with a B :b

Fleur came with the name FUDGE yuk ( sorry Roger ) but a least looking Fudge Ive ever seem , shes far too pretty , hence Fleur

Woody , his real name id Dyldan Dunwoody at Mulcair

Libbee , I just liked it as , was India and Harvee named

Bandit was called that when we had him but his show name is El Bandito so we think thats why
Owen was named that as at the time Ben was a big fan of Micheal Owen and I wasn't going to call him Micheal

Tegan I don't know why I just liked the name and it was different

Rosie was Rosie from the minute she was born don't know why she just was

Blaze has a big white blaze so that suited him

Toby has the same blaze but couldn't have 2 with the same name so OH decided on Toby

Lastly William he came from N Ireland and is registered as Billy the Kid he was 8 months when we had him and as regullars in the chat room know was originally called Willie no way I was shouting Willie at the park everyone said Billy did not suit him so he became William

   Now its out everyone knows his proper name lol

sorry to diversify again but it seemed a good time to tell everyone to save confusion later on  .....my jasper used to be helens jasper until a few months ago...and after much thought...i am going to rename jasper to casper..i kept it similar cos hes nearly 6yrs old and he knows his name but i wanted to choose him a new name...so now you know! :teehee:

Oliver was called Pliers in his litter as they were all named after DIY tools. :teehee: I liked Oliver so Oliver Pliers he became.
Freddie was Socks in rescue - very unoriginal! I knew he was a "tuxedo" greyhound and his fosterer told me that he danced when excited, so I decided to name him after Fred Astaire. He is now Freddie Socks.

Claire came with the name and it stuck because it was both unusual for a dog and it suited her.

Albie - Ian and Vicky Beetles were going through their list of potential names for their D litter and I grabbed Dumbledore before anyone else could! :D Albus Dumbledore was a given after that so he's Beetelian Dumbledore on his KC papers and Albie/Albus/Albus Dumbledore at home.

Logan - I like my animals' names to sound different from one another so I didn't want another "ie" ending. (Albie is technically a "us" ending!) Logan has been a favourite for some time so he ended up being called that. His KC name is Veredon nVincible. :)

I'm a bit sad though cos I'm constantly thinking of names. :b Great thread.

although its slightly off thread..it makes me laugh how people choose grand names for their pets but actually use bizarre affectionate longer versions...for instance i had a lurcher called "annie"....and we used to call her "annie pannie pooper scooper "

and even since yesterday "monty" has become "monty don"

i do that too

i also give them insulting additional names, 'devil pup' owen and 'donkey' Otis being a prime examples.

it did get me in trouble once at blackpool champ show,

i used to call my Rosa "fattie bitch"(it stuck after her pregnancy) so there i was merrily pushing my way through the crowds with Rosa getting in the way as usual, so said "come on fattie bitch get out the way" and the large lady walking past nearly socked me in the face

she just gets Rosa now when out in public :b

Oto got his name before he was born, i heard it on some washing powder advert (obscure i know ) and decided i really liked the name,

the 'O' theme developed by accident after that

so there is Oto, Otis, Owen, Otto jnr and Obi

My daughter named our lurcher Mae after Vanessa Mae as she enjoyed her concert so much. Her other pet is a Harris Hawk who she called Harry, it sounds uninspired but he is such a character and it really suits him.

Flyn was named in memory of the best male gsd that i bred

Murphy was already called that when i got him

When i rescued Izzy, she was so giddy that Izzy whizzy seemed appropriate for her

Poppy is the colour of ripened corn,& near us is a corn field that has loads of Poppies in it,so it just seemed right for her.

Badger(whippet)looked like a baby badger with his white stripe up his nose.

Woody(whippet)chewed a hole in the back door hence the name (w00t)

Bryn(whippetX)already had his name.

Parker(beagle) as in nosey parker coz he's a scent hound.

Zoe(boxer)because when my husband first saw her aged five weeks, apparently she whispered her name to him :- "

All my dogs have extra "pet"names though.

Badger becomes B,Baby bumps,Beetlebum or Bumpkin

Woody becomes Woodchip,chippy,chippydoo :b

Bryn becomes Pod(The Borrowers),Poddy,Odd Podkins :b :b

Parker becomes Parker Bear(big bears ears),Baby Bear or just Bear :b :b

Zoe becomes Ming(as in merciless),Baggage or Evil Cowbag :b :b :b :b

rosie is also posy

tegan is teabag

william is dd the second d is dog use your imagination for the first

Milo was named after the Nestle drink "milo" because he was the same colour. Well, thats what I like to think he was actually named after a B&W whippet I kept meeting in Manchester rail station when i was sixteen and had an obsession with whippets. Milo means "solider, warrior"

Riley was named that because I wanted something Irish because I have an Irish family. I wanted to call Riley "Dahey" (pr. dah-hee) which means swift/nimbleness but Danny didn't like it, I also like "Paedar" (pr. pad-er) which is the irish gaelic for Peter. Again Danny didn't like this but I finally won with Riley which means "courageous, valiant"

So together Milo and Riley are Valiant Knights

[

most of their names are nothing to do with me its OH and Ben that gives them to them

My first dog was Jack, he had to be really as Im Jill, then Buffy was a year old when I got her, and being a huge Buffy the Vampire slayer fan, it stuck, then I spent hours and hours trying to pick the right name for Toby, and even created shortlists, then the name popped into my head and felt perfect, and similarly the same process for Merlin.

As for silly names

Buffy - Buffely wuffely, the buffster, angel face, baby doll, oh god, Im starting to feel a wee bit embarresed :b , it gets worse LOL -

Toby - Toby toes, Toes, Tobly wobly, Toblerone, Tobemeister :- "

Merlin - Merly, Merlster, Spud, Melon ( for Susan ! ), and tinker  o:)

This is an interesting thread!

I named Holly her name just because liked it really :b and then called Willow her name because thought id stick with a tree/flower/plant theme! :D so....i can eventually have a heather, poppy, rowan, .........the list could go on!! :- " ;)

We have also got an English bull terrier called Diesel ( already had it when we got him as a pup) after ' Vin Diesel ' :b

We had Tink the cat cause i just liked the name, and also his brother Gogh, ( sadley no more with us :( ) after van gogh cause he had a dodgy ear from birth!

okay-

Flo our dog- short for Florence - after the place in Italy.

We call her Floby / Flobo / Flojo / Florry / Flo and when its just me and her i call her Florence as she's now a lady!!

Cats

Inca- White cat, South american SunGod!! OH's idea, but i love her name.

She gets called Incy Bincy / Inca Tinka / Slinky malinky..... we are odd yes..

Tali- Tortie, My chosen name as i think it sounds nice.

She gets called Tali Wali / Tali Baby and Tali cat (alley cat)!

funnily enough- they all know their different names and generally we just confuse visitors and people that dont live in our little family!

great little thread

I named Evie just because I liked the name, and Gracie was named after some

good friends of ours who emigrated to Australia and they have a daughter called

Grace, so i named her after her. The chap who emigrated used to call Evie. E-

bay (w00t) we used to go on holiday with them and got some pretty funny looks

when he called her E-bay

Julie
