before_slip.jpgWe had a good meeting of 24 dogs on a warm wet and windy October day. There were 6 four dog stakes matched for weight height and age. There were some closely contested courses held in a good sporting atmosphere with loads of laughs. Mel slipped brilliantly as usual. Bob and Brian Tovey provided the field and lure. We took Gracie’s pups along for their first hill sprint experience and they had a ball. Congratulations to all the winners.

Hi Springfield

The track is 400 metres long - approximately 200 is flattish and then the rest is about a 1 in 10 hill to the finish. The track is kept in superb condition, seeded and cut regularly. There are regular greyhound meetings there, particularly since live coursing finished. Some greyhound owners come from as far away as Kent and Norfolk on a weekly basis to trial their dogs as in their opinion it is the best schooling track in the country. The meetings are great and it's good to watch the greyhounds perform. It's even more lively when the bookie is in attendance. Last time he came the greyhound owners were betting that the whippets couldn't get to the top! They were gobsmacked when some of the whips finished and then ran back to their owners at the bottom!

There is no fixed date for the next meeting, but I'll p.m. you as soon as I know and also post it on the board.

If anyone is interested we are having a fun day at Cullompton on Sunday, Nov 4th.

The track there has had a lot of work done on it and we thought we'd "testdrive" it. The non-peds run there, it's 175yds and Mel will be there to slip as usual. There are no prizes so it's a fun and social day. Directions are on the VDCC website or ring Sue Ward on 07904642878 for further details and directions.

We are trying to organise another Hill Sprint before the end of the year, but it depends on the weather. We had one in November last year when it p....d down all day and Mel was up to his ankles in water. I'll post on the board if we do.

Sounds like a great day, shame we couldn't make it, we were getting rained on in Devon :p

Congratulations to all the winners especially Phoeb's sister Amber :huggles: The pups look gorgeous too, hope to see them in the flesh soon
