I have only just seen this, and relieved to see that William is hopefully on the mend.

Accidents do happen, and I don't think you were careless, we just feel so responsible for the safety of our dogs.

Looking at the pictures in your sig. he looks a lively soul, with a glint of mischief in his eyes.
