What does anyone charge their kids for keep...Joe's 18 and working full time bringing in roughly £900 a month.......

What does anyone else charge them...I'm not good at this lark lol

its all a balance between giving them a chance and valueing money....

You'll have to start Clair :))

He's a big boy now, get him ready for the fun part of

life like bills and bills and maybe a few more bills

I would start with at least £40. I think whilst they are living at home at this age then they are still learning about life and one of life's lessons is to appreciate the cost of everything. A salutory lesson is to sit down with them and write down how much it would cost them to live away from home, it makes them realise what a) what a great deal they are getting and b) how much it costs to put a roof over their head. I know all this sounds quite mercenary but it's part of going out to work and being responsible for your own money.

He sounds a good lad and will understand. The fun part is when they are older and have a home and family of their own and you see yourself in them, being careful with their money.

When I was living at home 20 years ago (w00t) (w00t)

My mum took a 10er a week from me and un beknown to me she saved it up so when I moved out I was given an unexpected bonus to help out

Always thought that was a great idea :huggles:

Only if you can afford to be without it though

I know my sister in law was paying £40 a week for her upkeep recently if that helps.

Responsibility with money is one of the most important lessons you can teach really think it should be taught at school..

i would say about £40 a week, and maybe try and get him to put some money a side in a savings account as well..........i can remember at that age giving my parents extra money to put away for me cos if i didnt i knew i would just spend it on crap ;)

i asked for it back when i was about 25 ish and had quite a tidy sum

i left school at 16 and got a full time job, stayed 4days with my mum 3with my dad, had to pay them £15 a week each!, i was earning £600 a month.

i like the idea that you take it from them but give some/all back as a bonus when them move out.

Personally, I don't think he should have to pay anything for being such an awesome son all these years :p :- "

£40 a week is very good value, break it all down for him as if her were in a rented room, rent, electric, gas, laundry, food etc, and he will see how well off he is. They have to learn at some time to stand alone, hard I know, but do your best to set him on the right road!!!!!!!! :huggles:

Ohhh I've changed my mind, perhaps £100 per week is a more realistic amount!!!!

I think we've spotted that she may have a little to do with you - you're one very lucky lad :huggles: Go on spoil her - take her out for her tea :huggles:

Just don't come in chat at nightime - cos she might just open your eyes a bit

haha lol. Nope meddling's not out surname! Well if she's not told you where it comes from then they're may be a reason so I better not say anything :p

i must have been a soft touch cause i charged mine £25 a week, and they use to put so much away into their savings account for their future too.

They are now in their own houses and the savings went towards their mortgage down payment
