Hello,

Every month I use an anti flea product from the vet to avoid fleas but also because I know that fleas can give allergies and worms. I also use a wormer from the vet every 3 month but feel a bit bad about it: why flush my dog's system out when I never seen any sign of worms? (probably not very pleasant for the dog).

Many thanks for your views.

I worm my dogs every three months.

you do not see worms unless the dogs worm burden is very very severe,in which case thats unfair on the dog.I'd rather not wait until my dog is so full of worms that i can see them and then worm him.

My dogs all pick up unmentionable items and eat them and i'm quite certain regular worming is in their best interests. :)

mine get done every three months,i get a reminder from my vets.

I use Drontal + but, more recently, Panacur Favourites, they love them, especially TJ!! Stocked up on Crufts specials and the so-and-so ate about 12 with no ill effect whatsoever!!!

Drontal or Panacure here too

i just can't take the risk of wormy infestations bleuuurgh :x dogs n cats n everyone with unsavoury habits....i'd rather given everyone's system a good regular clear out than risk worm ridden creatures :(

I did get the cat done when she went to the vets...

In my oppinion it's essential that you do them regularly kim if you are racing them at a club as if they get them they could pass them on to the other dogs in their feaces

And it's no fun for the dogs anyway they can get worms quickly if untreated :x just my oppinion

I do all ours regulary but give them as little as possible.

However I think the ones most likely to get worms are the young sexually active ones so I am always well on top of them.

I read the other day thatthe dog flea is getting quite rare  . How many of you have noticed a drop in flea trouble. We hardly ever see a flea now, even when we get back from a show. Probably be infested now Ive said thar (w00t)

I HATE flea preparations, I think they poison the dogs too.

LOL! No, I was not best pleased with him but I think I was more upset about the whole pack of nut brittle he ate at the same time!!!

I think it goes in cycles we had an absolute infestation a couple of years back but I agree, I don't much like flea preparations. I put them on the ESS and the cats but try and avoid doing it on the Whippets. I did use the Johnsons 4Fleas tablets for a quick hit as they have no residual effect but otherwise I just tend to use a flea shampoo and Zodiac flea collars rather than spot-on things or, at a push, Frontline spray.

I know this will sound really cruel :- " but in the summer I put flea collars on the old ones because I know they wont chew them off or let the young ones take them off them. They all sleep together so Im sure it gives them all enough protection. What I really hate is those drops between the shoulderblades (dont touch or cuddle your dog for 3 days (w00t) ) and internal flea protection.

I try not to use anything unnatural on them or me, I hate poisons of any sort even if they are disguised as some medicinal cure.

I have always used Programme. It's a tablet rather than a spot on. The spot on set my allergies off something horrible, and I HATE how they feel on the dogs... Program sterilizes the fleas rather than killing them so you can still see the odd one but they can't multiply. I've always preferred that anyway, and I personally feel it's less toxic to the dog.

Not probably, most definitely right! All dogs have worms and should be treated on a regular basis. It is irresponsible not to do so.
