Late last night I got a phone call from the doggie sitter and what she said was; I have noticed that Olive has got really dry flaky skin on her belly, teats and inner legs. What could it be? Could it be a protein deficiency? As I know that it can create flaky skin. Could it be atopic dermatosis? Should I try Olive on a different food a it could be food related? Could it be contact dermatosis? Can i try a treatment for it? Could it be stress related due to the puppies leaving her? Any reply's welcome thank you :) If you want a picture then just ask as I'm happy to post one.
**Olive is a 2 year old mini schnauzer hasn't had fleas/or to my knowledge**

I'd get her seen by a vet - they might want to take skin scrapings for analysis.

Could he be stressing over you being gone? I agree, though, take him to a vet. Is he scratching?

Yes she is scratching, I'm not sure if it could be because I'm on holiday but I have never left her before for holiday as she had the puppies...

Hey there! I would try a few natural remedies before taking Olive to the vet. It could just be dry skin and itchiness caused by stress or environmental factors. If the problem persists then I would take Olive to the Vet. Here are some home remedies for dry/itchy skin. I have used Aloe Vera on my dog and it worked great to help alleviate her itchiness.

1. Aloe Vera: The live plant has important enzymes that last for less than three days in the refrigerator. Fresh aloe gel can be obtained by splitting the leaf. Use the hard cuticle of the leaf to apply the green tinged clear jelly that’s inside the leaf to itchy areas.

2. Baking Soda: Mix one tablespoon of baking soda with a little water to make a paste. Place the paste on the areas that are itchy or reddened. Leave the paste on for a few hours. Then wash it off.

3. Witch Hazel: You can buy at the store. When applied directly to the skin, witch hazel helps reduce swelling, repair broken skin and also fights bacteria.
