Todays walk with Jake, we went up to our local hill, walked not too far and slowly as usual but shared it with 'my' crows. Over the winter we usually have around 30 plus crows sharing our walk, there and back, but this time of year we have these two.. the gang(murder?) of them proper tease the dogs and have no fear, they have bumped Jake on his behind before and got so close they look like they will pluck hair from his tail!(btw I feed them which is why they walk with us, I am not a witch honest!!):D

.

when i worked at Westminster-Canterbury in Va Beach, i helped to raise a [wild] young crow, & for over 2-years, he [presumptive gender] would recognize me from afar, as i walked thru the neighborhood, & contact-call to me.
:)
Even when my work uniform changed completely, making my exterior very different, he still recognized some quintessential me - my gait?, my size & shape?, i dunno - but he could recognize me from more than 200-ft, so it couldn't possibly be my facial features.
It was so nice to see him, as he grew up, & know that someone knew me, & was happy to see me.

I don't know if he moved, was killed, died of illness or injury, or got caught up in making a family - but his calls stopped, that 3rd spring after his hatch. // I missed him.

Does Jake not get annoyed with them? I think crows are pests

I helped rear 2 crows who came out of the nest too young - they were a riot, outdoors & in.
They played like a pair of kittens, one would hide behind a sheaf of iris-leaves in the garden, & leap out to pounce on the other, when they passed... classic ambush games. :D
I found them fascinating - their behavior was very un-birdlike. // Sadly, both died in a bizarre accident B4 they reached full-flight. :( I was heartbroken.

My car is having its MOT today, so while they're doing that in town, Today' walk was through some woods around where I used to live (where my mum still lives) it's a long trail that goes from the back of the house all the way to the school just outside of town (where I found that bird @Josie) So far it's taken an hour and 10 minutes and were still going!
She's loving it!!

@Josie - you weren't born in Bethlehem by any chance, were you? ;) Crows are ace BTW, very clever, and much preferable to seaguls. That said, if they're near Jimmy he will bark at them and try to chase them

Is it bad to say I have no idea hat you mean @arealhuman

Oh I definitely don’t doubt their intelligence! Den will do that to and thinks he’s really hard :D

Today we tried an old walk of ours that allows Murphy off lead sadly its very overgrown at the moment with thistles (bad) and giant hogweed (very bad!) But what we did see was this lovely tribute to a dog I remember being around from the time when Benny was still with us...

Basic translation; * I am Aldo an English pointer found at the aldi and therefore given the name Aldo. At the Froske I walked hundreds of km from early morning to late in the evening I chased the pheasants and the rabbits, chewed countless sticks and swum miles after the ducks. I had the time of my life here. With good food and lots of love I made 17 years. Now I am no longer there in body but my soul is still here and in memories I still walk run and swim in this fantastic spot.*

RIP Aldo ,.. you were obviously much loved...

We went to Pamphill this morning, which is the most perfect unspoilt Dorset village you can imagine. You wouldn't be surprised to see Tess of the D'Urbervilles walking along the lanes!

Idyllic sunken lane

Going back to Josie's pic, my boarders that have stayed with Jake these last few years all seem to understand he's now a lot slower and they will go so far ahead, and without me even having to call them, they naturally stop and wait. It never ceases to amaze me how amazing dogs are..

A gorgeous pair of swans decided they would make their nest on the river bank where I frequently walk Dennis. It has been amazing seeing them progress, from building their nest to sitting on it day and night. Today I walked past and there were two ducks sitting in the nest!!:eek::eek:

She was on her nest yesterday so I went in search for them further down the river hoping all was well and this is what I found :)
