I personally don't agree with under age pups competing, there is more than enough time to show dogs once they are 6 months. Pups should be allowed to be pups before they compete.
This is just my opinion before you all jump down my throat.
Those shows/matches that are run under KC rules state that no pup under 6 months is elegible to enter. Most Matches are KC licenced so puppies under 6 months are not allowed to enter.
There is a picture of this dog on The Whippet Archives but it does look like he is in the process of mating a bitch which is a little distasteful in my opinion, surely a picture of him stood or lying naturally would be preferable?

Not knowing, personally, the circumstances of your dog before, it may be that the female of house(if there was one) may of been nasty to her??
Our dogs are not used to men so would possibly react in the same way
Are you really sure you need to breed, it is not as easy as you may think. There can be many complications from beginning to end plus as a breeder, you would need to be prepared to take back any pups, at any age, should the owner want you to.
You may well have already thought of all the above...
