Is the judge tommorow a fella from SA? If so I might of just spoken to him. (He is not at the show grounds today). Anyway. Short list is 8. The final of the group is later today.

In that case I'm going to watch the AFL grandfinal ... (with one eye!!) I think it is a SA bloke ... can't remember as I've gone nuts and entered anything within an hour of Bendigo and there are heaps of shows up here ... I may never go to KCC park ever again!!! (w00t)

 Just heard Whippet got Group 3rd and Puppy of Group went to the whippet.

WELL DONE!!

Just back from the Nationals & totally knackered - the 4 days seemed to have rolled into each other.... having hounds & gundogs going continuously saw me on my feet most of the time :teehee:

Just about everyone enjoyed a bit of sweet success - there were four CC's on offer at the shows & 4 different dogs & bitches picked one up. Sorry, I don't get catalogues - don't have time to fart let alone write down results but I will give you the basics - here goes....

Wellington Hound Assn - Dog CC - Shenace Public Affair - Bitch CC, BOB & RBIS Skyway Summer Charm.

Res Bitch CC - Gr Ch Ronndal Exciting Dream

Baby In Show - Wickerby Total Surprise

Minor Puppy In Show - Shenace Caught Kissn N Public

Puppy In Show - Shenace Public Affair

Junior In Show - Ch Ronndal Copycat

Intermediate In Show - Skyeway Summer Charm

Veteran In Show - Aust/NZ Gr Ch Statuesque Toronndal

Open In Show - Gr Ch Ronndal Exciting Dream

Master Jordi won the puppy dog class at 3 of the 4 shows, so I was a pretty happy camper :teehee:

Our wee pointer baby won Best Puppy In Show at the Prelude show - a great way to kick off the shows

But the total highlight of our trip away was an awesome win with young Kate.

The NZKC has launched NZ Young Kennel Club. This is for the encouragement of youngsters from the age of 6years old right thru to 24yrs old. Our current system basically had on offer a Junior handlers competition, you had to be 12years old before you could start competing - often the kids get dragged along & by the time they are 12 they are over it.

The NZYKC is seperated into 3 age groups - this inaugrual year had 8 - 11yrs, 12- 15yrs & 16 - 24yrs. I don't have exact numbers, but all 3 age groups were extremely well represented - the hard working committee put on special outside events for the kids that were well supported - 10 pin bowling, disco etc...

Anyhow - Young Kate ( 8) chose an adult pointer that I show as her dog for the competition in light of Molly whippet slicing her tendon a few weeks ago. Saphire pointer & Kate were a total dream team o:) .. the calibre of handlers was extremely high & the competition really tight. There were a couple of heats & then all the 8 - 11yrs came in the ring & only 3 kids were chosen for the final - first pulled out was Erika Watson (no relation - but a whippet handlers who is 11yrs old), then my Kate  & then Paige who handles Sibe's, not sure what age but she would not be far off going up into the next age group.

It was sooooo exciting as the support from around the ring was enromous, there was a lot of spectators & exhibitors

The finals were ready to be judged, I was a nervous wreck - heart thumping, hands shaking, sweaty feet & palms :sweating: Young Kate was taking it all in her stride, the kids were put thru the drill once again & then the announcement came.... First Place Winner was awarded to Kate   :teehee:

There have been many proud moments in my life with the kids acheivements, but I would have to say, that that must have topped it - she was so gorgeous & under control - mother on the other hand had to gulp a glass of bubbles to get it together :p

Kate is such a sweet girl, kind hearted and thoughtful, she always puts in 110 percent in what she does. She came out of the ring & said "Mum - does that mean we go to Crufts?" - bless her - told her not yet, you have another 4 years before you can compete at that one- but keep watching this space K9'ers - I am confident one day we will meet

NZYKC also had a logo competition - broken into the 3 age groups they got the kids to submit what they would think would be suitable logos - the overall winner was a paw print with NZYKC - it was pretty cool - they also had prizes for 1st, 2nd & 3rd for the 3 age groups & yup...

Miss Kate spent hours designing not one, but 2 logo's!! Hard work payed off - she won 1st & 2nd prize in the logo competition

Back to earth & now have about 20 loads of washing to get thru

Well done Kate , As one of the people who loan our dogs for the international Junior handler finals at Crufts , i look forwards to loaning her a whippet in the future :huggles: :luck:

Big Huge Congrat's Kate on your fantastic win

Great idea to keep the kids interested in showing, they need to so something like that over here.

Well done Jordi

 Well done Lynda for drinking all the champers, see your going need Kate more and more to handle the dogs if you have all that celebrating to do :D :D :teehee:

Lovely of Jax to offer Kate a whippy to show at Cruft's already :)

Cristina

Mychaka Whippets

Thanks Jax & Cristina :D

It is awesome to encourage our youngsters and by having something specifically for them at such a young age is awesome, the committee did an outstanding job at having all sorts of activities -disco's & 10 pin bowling - they learnt Paws To Music - YES - a whippet can dance to music

All I need now is for Kate to get her licence - it was a wonder I didn't get the bends with all the bubbles I consumed :teehee: I can just see it - her & I toddling off to shows, Kate showing the dogs, mother sitting sideline having a tipple & then Kate packing dogs & mother up before she gets us safely back home - roll on 8 more years (w00t) (w00t)

Rubbish Sue!!! Have you not seen Dad's form at the Sunbury shows??!!! I'm sure that's why they had me so late in life!!

True that we do go AWOL, but eventually we do come back!!! Much to the annoyance of the husband!! (w00t) He tried to organise a surprise 30th but I didn't turn up as I had a dog show!! :D

Haaa haaaaa... my dad had the numb brain to organise his wedding (as you do when you are 70 - bless him!) on an easter weekend right in the middle of dog shows (w00t)

I just made sure the whippets were on first thing - then group was done before the 2.00pm wedding that luckily was 5 mins down the road :teehee:

Kate adores dog shows, she was very funny sitting in the seat allocated for the judge while the judge was busy doing her thing - I think if Kate could, she would be in the ring right beside the judge watching  she is a sponge for taking in info - I am sure she will look after her mother later in life - my younger one however is a very different story - she goes to dog shows to make money - bored with the nationals she proceeded to make paper puppies & sell them - made quite a sum of money conning people into buying "originals" (w00t) (w00t)

It's been a crackerjack year so far for Skyeway bred dogs.

Many Best In Show awards and BOB's at the the major Royals in Australia.

You must be chuffed Cartman. ;) ;)

Congrats Cartman, Geoff & Kerry and The Promise. She's a lovely girl.

Woo-hoo ! Paddy's first BIG. Good onya Cassie.

Congrats on your new Champion Griff and to Wendye too.

I got a new champion on the weekend too - but not a whippy. Miss Reba Fluffy Butt (Sibe) finally got those last 5 points (after a long drought) with a 10point CC and RUBOB under the Japanese judge in Townsville. All I can say is Phew! What a relief! The judge was really into movement and I knew if he would give her the chance she would be a contender and we did it.

Congrat's again Lana on Reba's final points - saw the tears :- "

Was almost worth missing out on showing the whippies yourself hey. :D - Glad to see you got home ok. I know I felt tired and luckly I didn't have to travel this time. Very long shows and not much sleep.

Haven't got a catalogue with me at work otherwise I'd put the results from the weekend and I'm not going to risk getting the names wrong or mis-spelt.

Congrat's to Denise Tuck for winning Puppy of the Year - Zone 3 on Friday night with her bitch Deliha; and Best in Show on Sunday with Cody.

Margaret Mason received BOB and Best In Group on Saturday with her bitch.

Received Baby in Group with Ellie (Birrarun Licorice Twist) on Sunday and had a second run out for In Show but she wouldn't stand as all she wanted to do was play with the fly buzzing around her face. :D

My Pharaoh Hound went in Veteran for the first time and received the award both days, really doesn't feel like an oldie or look it either.
