well done Rachel. im sure youre acting with the dogs best interests at heart.hope something is done for them :luck:

well done on reporting this although RSPCA will probably not do a right lot. if no success there then what bout Blue Cross or Dogs Protection League, or even Cannine Defence.

with you all the way on this one.... :huggles:

Good for you for reporting this situation. Let's hope the dogs get the help they need.

Just a few points though, be very careful about being tempted to feed the dogs, even if they do look thin & hungry. The way the stupid law is, if you take it upon yourself to feed an animal then you become responsible for it & if you then stop feeding it,( even tho it's not yours & you were trying to help) you can then be prosecuted for neglect (w00t)

Insane, I know, but that's the law. Not the RSPCA making these rules but whoever it is that makes stupid laws like this

Also, the Inspector will seal the doors with some tape & if it remains unbroken within a certain time (not sure but maybe 48hrs) then they can prove no one is coming in to feed the dogs. What sometimes happens is a well meaning neighbour will unknowingly break the seal & destroy the evidence.

Don't worry about the people being told who reported them This won't happen. If the identity was revealed then no-one would ever phone up about anything.

In April 2007 the new Animal Welfare Bill came into force. This now means that any animal is entitled to not only food, water & shelter but also to a clean environment, exercise appropriate to the species (so being kept in a yard is not ok for a dog) & to receive vet treatment if needed.

It's still not perfect but much better than previously. At least now the RSPCA are able to step in if the animal is likely to suffer in the future if conditions don't change, rather than having to wait until the animal is actually suffering.

I hope this makes sense & that something will be done for these dogs :luck:

Of course I can see why you're worried and it certainly seems like the poor dogs ain't having much of a life - but there's a big difference between not having SEEN anyone visit since Sunday, and no one actually visiting.
I would be horrified to think that my neighbours assumed that my cat wasn't fed while I was away on account of not happening to see my cat feeder calling round (dogs come with me btw!)

Thats not a dig at you though Rachel - The rest of the stuff you talked about in your post would be enough to concern me if I lived close  :huggles:

Leaving a cat and leaving a dog while you are away are 2 entirely different things in my opinion.

Even if they are feeding them - they have no exercise, almost zero human interaction and are kept in a shit pit.

I feel a hell of a lot better for having reported them - so thanks for the tips everyone.

I will let you know the outcome of tomorrow's visit.

ABSOLUTELY Rachel! That's why i put the last bit on my post  My reply was more about people getting outraged that no-one had been in since Sunday (which may or may not be the case)

Everything you said about the general conditions that these dogs are kept in would have me reaching for the phone too!

When I phoned the RSPCA I did make it clear that I wasn't sure if people had been into feed and water them - as we're not in all day every day.

But because I stressed the other conditions they were kept in they seemed to take me more seriously.

We're moving soon, so I will feel better too, knowing I didn't just go without having spoken up

You did the RIGHT thing

Whether anyone has been since Sunday or not is for the RSPCA to determine not you.

You have merely reported what you know, it is now for them to determine if things are ok or not.

You have nothing to reproach yourself for , its in their hands now & all you have done is what any other true animal lover would do.

Sorry Rachel, i think we're at crossed purposes - I really do think you did the right thing (I'm gonna stop now though, coz i don't think I'm making it any better!) x

Good for you Rachel, hope it will get sorted very soon for these poor dogs sake

Just been reading this and Rachel you have so done the right thing - you couldn't have done anymore - good for you  - lets hope the outcome is positive for the dogs sake

Everything crossed that the RSPCA can help, and I'm sure you did the right thing contacting them :luck:

So glad you made the call, really hope something can be done. Keep us posted :luck:

Hope this gets sorted out soon. Let us know what happens.

Well - I'm home and no sign that anything has happened. Although not sure what I was expecting really?!

I think I will give them a call this evening and find out if they did come out as promised or not. I will update when I have something to report

Sorry Urchin - only just seen your post.

Don't worry I know exactly what you were saying and no offence taken. :huggles:

Pleased to say that the RSPCA Inspector's have just been round.

After they had looked round they came to tell me what they had found - so, there was water down and food (biscuits) but just scattered on the floor. There was also over a weeks worth of dog poo in their run :(

I just went for a peek and I was horrified by what I saw, it really was disgusting and the dogs looked really miserable and dirty. They are both large lurchers.

So, the inspectors said that the conditions they were being kept in were not satisfactory and they would be taking further action. They have asked the people to contact them on their return and will wait to see if they do call and they will then take it from there.
