Alfie was having a mad five minutes this evening, just like he's done hundreds of times before, and he took a flying leap off the bed and must have landed badly because the next thing I knew he was screaming and his front left leg was at a horrible angle :( Poor wee man still managed to wag his tail once he had calmed down a bit :'( We rushed him straight to the vets and she could see straight away that it was broken. She couldn't give him an anaesthetic to x-ray the leg though as he had only just wolfed down a bowl of mince before it happened. We had to leave him there :'( which was the hardest thing. The vet phoned me back around 10 to let me know that Alfie has settled down now he's got a splint on and the pain killers are doing their job, so much so that they managed to get a fairly decent x-ray while he was still awake - enough to confirm that it is a full thickness break of his 'forearm' - both the radius and the ulna bones are broken :( My vet is contacting a specialist orthopaedic surgeon in the morning to give him the best possible chance of a full recovery from the injury. I have to thank Rachel for all her support this evening - I really appreciate it :huggles:

Poor Alfie, I'm sending all my healing thoughts for a speedy recovery. A big hug to you Jill, I have often seen my dogs jump and land and wondered how they came away unscathed. Give little Alfie a cuddle from me when you see him tomorrow.

Jenny

All our love and healing thoughts are winging their way up to Scotland.

I am still googling away trying to get as much info as I can and I really do feel positive that seeing the specialist tomorrow, they will have him back to normal before too long - hope so as the live wire will go nuts on his cage rest :D .

Jo and I are always here anytime - so sorry we're not nearer but only a phone call away x

Poor Alfie :( and what a horrible shock for you all.

Best wishes for a quick recovery :luck:

So very sorry to hear of Alfie's horrible accident. My heart was in my mouth when Rachel told me. It sounds like your Vet. is right "on the ball". and with the right Veterinary care I sure Alfie will soon be back on four strong legs, and running the hills with his brother Blue. Thinking of you, and Holly sends big licks. :luck: :luck: :luck:

Poor little fellow

Hopefully, it will be a clean break. :luck: Being a youngster, it should mend quickly :luck: :luck: :luck:

They are so full of beans at his age,, you are in for a interesting couple of months. Fingers crossed that all goes well at the specalists today.

Please keep us posted. As you know, Alfie is rather a favourite of mine so here are plenty of huggies for him (posting rules would not allow more)

Wishing Alfie a speedy recovery . The good thing is he is young so his bones should heal fine :huggles:

Sorry to hear this, I really hope that the specialist can give you some positive news today.
