Alfie was having a mad five minutes this evening, just like he's done hundreds of times before, and he took a flying leap off the bed and must have landed badly because the next thing I knew he was screaming and his front left leg was at a horrible angle Poor wee man still managed to wag his tail once he had calmed down a bit :'( We rushed him straight to the vets and she could see straight away that it was broken. She couldn't give him an anaesthetic to x-ray the leg though as he had only just wolfed down a bowl of mince before it happened. We had to leave him there :'( which was the hardest thing. The vet phoned me back around 10 to let me know that Alfie has settled down now he's got a splint on and the pain killers are doing their job, so much so that they managed to get a fairly decent x-ray while he was still awake - enough to confirm that it is a full thickness break of his 'forearm' - both the radius and the ulna bones are broken My vet is contacting a specialist orthopaedic surgeon in the morning to give him the best possible chance of a full recovery from the injury. I have to thank Rachel for all her support this evening - I really appreciate it :huggles:
