Recently, Irie has developed serious cloth ears.

His recall has never been good, but at least he stayed quite close at hand when we were out walking.

However, that has all changed :(

For the last couple of weeks he has been running off on his own, regardless of me whistling, calling, shouting, jumping up and down, waving a rag etc etc etc (w00t)

Tonight was the last straw. I watched him run across two fields with Ella and Sox in tow, and then vanish under a gate into a field which then goes out onto a bridlepath and down to the road.

Luckily, Sox was having none of it and waited for me, Jinny and Rosie like the good little blue pup she is  However, it was too late to get Ella back, she had vanished too :( I was beside myself with worry as it was nearly dark and although they have fluorescent collars on I am always terrified that something will happen to them. I put the others back on their leads and set off in pursuit of the runaways.

I phoned my neighbours to rustle up a search party and ended up standing on the bridle path yelling out their names and whistling continuously in the hope that they would hear me.

What a relief it was when Ella came up the bridlepath towards me :sweating: :sweating: She was panting like mad and must have run quite a way. I clipped her lead on and walked down towards the road, hoping that Irie was somewhere nearby and he was!!! On the other side of a gate in a field where he shouldn't have been, but at least he was safe :sweating:

By this time is was dark and I walked home to find all the neighbours and my husband out searching - they were pretty pleased to see us all safely home :)

So Irie has burnt his bridges now. No more free running for him anymore. I can't risk him naffing off and taking my girlies with him so he is grounded for ever more.

All offers on a postcard please :- " .......................................

Oh Jane - what a little sod - hope he learns his lesson and can go off again soon.

Awwww Jane :huggles: that must have been sooo scary for you

Poor Irie :( just needs to go out in a safe field on a 1 to 1 basis that might help him

 what a shock for you big sis ,i hope he learns and can one day be trusted again :huggles: :huggles:

oh no jane :( i have to see eve was a bit like that when she was younger, mum could get her back but i struggled in enclosed fields, she has got better with age now though, so mayb irie will aswell

He can come to live with me Jane as he will get on like a house on fire with Sidney who seems to of forgotten his recall today too .... we had to use the doggy whistle :- "

as for irie i would gladly take him off your hands he is a bit gorgeous :b

Naughty, naughty Irie.........whip him good and sent him round.

My god can you imagine him and K..........not in a million years

Seriously though what a fright for you Jane :huggles:

Glad all ended well and you have Irie grounded like K.

Just remember....................things can only get better

What a naughty boy he is  putting through that worry :( At least he been found and is ok :sweating: i bet he has been forgiven now, with lots of cuddles :- " :D

ooo jane poor you i bet you was worried sick hun :huggles: ,naughty irie .

what a nightmare, im glad you got them back safe :huggles:

oohhhh little bugger................back to basics for him me thinks :)

glad your all safe and sound :huggles:

Been there, done that. I tried going back to basics, but Pye just goes off hunting so he is only free while racing or in the garden. It is terrifying when you spot them fields away and they are keeping going. It is a whippet thing and a difficult one to cure, if ever.

little swines arent they,my three oldest carnt go off lead together cause they all leg it too, so they go solo now and dont usually go that far :b

We have the same problem Trish.... let Sidney off, he goes AWOL for a short while but more does a huge loop around you.

Ben is fabulous and stays with you.

But together (w00t) they go into race mode and wont listen for love of choccy drops

Actually my two have got quite bad lately about running off and turning completely deaf when I call them - I put it down to the fact that they are having a field day chasing/catching rabbits at the moment due to the mixamatosis - they had 6 between then in one day the other week and they have now got the taste for bunny - as a result I will only let them free run at the moment if my husband is with me so that I have an extra pair of hands to reel them back in.

Problem with Irie is that he gets himself into fields he can't get out of ........... and he is too thick to retrace his steps and come back the way he went and he won't bark to let me know where he is  :(

Ella has always been keen to get up on the banks (hedges) and runs along the top of them undercover of the bushes. But she has the sense to retrace and get back out on the side she went in

Irie had his first walk on an extending lead last night - he pulls like a carthorse (w00t) :sweating: :sweating:
