Only just seen this. Sorry to hear about the loss of one little lad RIP little one. Hope Talli is okay & pups keep growing stronger every day :luck:

Pups all been given a dose (thanks Chris/Julie) , whilst I was driving Mum has managed to get all the boys to have a go at suckling and they all tried. Talli is getting better and better with them as she recovers more, licking and stimulating them.

Thanks everyone for your messages of support.

When you give pups a dose hold them gently around the teat area

One boy hanging on for himself and another taking from the bottle like he's half starved.

Mum took some quick snaps of the weeny lads just after I'd given them a feed.

Thats good news ..try making them feed every 2 hour-ish for the 1st few days ..if you need to use the puppy stim do but try them without 1st ..and when handling them be very gentle

 SUCH LITTLE SCRAPS! FINGERS CROSSED THEY ALL PULL THROUGH. THINKING OF YOU ALL! :luck:

Was incubation offered Elise? One of the pups is quite premature and could suffer from exposure. I suspect this is the one not suckling? You can do one of 2 things:

Make your own incubator with a small plastic fish tank. Use a heat pad well covered with towels and mist the edges with water spray to keep humidity. You can also put in a thermometer to watch the temp. See also http://www.ehow.com/how_5989200_directions...-incubator.html

OR increase the warmth and humidity in the room. Wet towels on radiators works well.

If the pup isn't sucking, I'd contact the vet early morning and ask them to show you how to tube feed. It is not for the novice, you need to be trained properly but it is a lot safer than trying to syringe feed a pup that has no suckling reflex because they will inspire fluid onto their lungs.

Additionally increasing the humidity on pups that are being hand reared helps to expel any fluid that may already be on their lungs.

After feeding, pups can and will go into thermal shock. Blood leaves the limbs to cope with the food in their stomachs. After feeding they need to be kept warm and also they need to be moved around to prevent food stagnating in their gut. If Talli is washing all the pups and nuzzling them around this naturally prevents this but if she's not then you need to be doing this.

Feed little and often to help prevent the above. It is better to give a few millilitres every 30 mins - 1 hour than to give a big feed which will overwhelm their body. Use the puppystim and get some whelpi from the vets as well (if you haven't already got it)

Has any precaution been made to prevent sepsis if there's been a dead pup decaying in the birth canal? Or was the discharge related to the expulsion of the mucous plug? Again it's worth asking the vet. If there hasn't been, if not for the risk of infection then to prevent the possibility of a bacterial infection developing from food stagnation.

Have you got any weights? A slight drop from birth weight is to be expected with the trauma of birth but if you can manage to keep the weights the same, your doing well. I've had success with pups just below 5 oz and premature pups that have been near bald so don't loose hope. :luck:

Should of mentioned best way is with your own body heat. Get the pup under your jumper. Eventually they warm up but also wiggle about and twitch. This is known as activated sleep where muscles are developing. At this point you can take them out and put them back with Talli because you know they're not in a state of shock. The other clue is their limbs start to feel warm again whereas when you first pop them under, their paws will feel cold.
