Cracker Attacked By A Mastiff

I am sat waiting for the phone to ring,to collect my Cracker dog who was attacked by a Mastiff this afternoon.He has a 9 inch gash in his hind leg and two tears in the muscle.He should make a fully recovery,with time.

We were out on our local park when the mastiff ran from nowhere and squared up to Cracker,it then lunged and grabbed his back leg

The owner said sorry,his dog can be funny sometimes as full of Testosterone :angry: ,then he legged it

I know all breeds can turn,but i blame the owner,not the dog.

Oh no, poor Cracker, let's hope he heals well and feels a lot better soon. It amazes me that these people who 'know' their dog can be a bit funny at times don't keep them on a lead or muzzle them. They don't care what damage and hurt is caused by their stupidity. as you say, the owners are the ones to blame.

Sounds just like what weve been through with oliver except he was attacked by a staffie , makes my blood boil with people having dogs that are unpredictable and they let them off lead :rant:

So sorry to hear this,

Phoenix was bitten by another dog, and had a huge gash on his leg that teared the muscle, a few stitches internal and external and lots of rest he is now as right as rain and did make a full recovery.

It is awful when it happens and i felt sick to my stomach with worry. I hope Cracker is ok!

Hi Trish and Jo,

Crackerdog is home,lots of internal and external stitches,and is fast asleep at the mo.

It has been an ordeal,but but Cracker will bounce back.Everybodys kind comments have helped.

So sorry to hear about Cracker, I hope he's fully recovered very soon

I had similar recently, my gentle elderly Jess was onlead and attacked by a collie that came out of nowhere, she had puncture wounds, a gash on her hip and was black and blue with bruising. Owner said her dog "could be bossy" with other bitches then disappeared sharpish. Completely irresponsible to let your dog offlead/unmuzzled if you know they aren't 100% with other dogs :rant:

Hope he recovers ok, my Ruby has had this happen twice now and she was 1 one 2 Jan, first time was at 5 months by 2 other lurchers and a golden retriever, this was our fault because his dogs did not like other dogs on a lead and then again at 9 months when a woman walked out of a gateway passed a parked car with 2 dogs one a spaniel on a lead and the other a terrier which was off lead, the first words out of mouth were "oh no" when she saw us the terrier flew at Ruby and I was out of order shouting at her to "get her f*****g dog under control" . These people should never have dogs and preferably be castrated/steralised at birth, then they cannot pass on the idiot gene.

Thats my rant hope he recovers well good luck

ive had many run ins with staffies and bigger dogs and when this happens i dont hold back, for me the dog gets it sharp fast and hard, ok yes owners at fault but its the dog who commits the crime also so you hav to act to protect our own dog which most of the time are on the lead. i hope your dog is ok.

Hope Cracker is feeling better today, word of warning, try not to let him off lead for a while. It happened to Phoenix 2 days before going on holiday, we kept him on lead for the first week we were on hols and then thought he was ok on his leg to let him off lead - he normally doesnt run off - but oh no, i guess that week on lead must have killed him as as soon as we unclipped the lead WHHOOOSHHH he was off on the beach, and split one of his stitches :rant: Luckily it was an end one, and didnt leave too much of a wound.

Crackerdog is a bit better today,still very sore and swollen,but better than i expected.

I must admit that I always carry a fairly "substantial" walking stick on all our walks these days, purely as protection against attacks from bigger dogs. Sad but,I fear, A necessary precaution. There seem to be far too many large dogs "off lead" and I am sorry but when one does go for my Whippet (who is always on a flexi lead) then it is a case of "looking after number one" and protecting both me and my dog.
