Quite agree Jax and as someone who had, in those days, to work at Crufts I must say I only really remember dog related stands. With the move to the bigger NEC the stands seemed to bloom into alot of other product types, & then into more halls as you say. I am in no way against dog related stands, as my 'bread & butter' was earned this way, but against the vast array of other things we see now which add to the space needed. Still I suppose it pleases the general public.............oh but aren't they there to see dogs??????????

It would be interesting to ask peps on the way out if they actually saw a dog ( apart from those being dragged round the ;) show getting trod on that is  )

have to say folks that if there werent any trade stands there your entry fees would be astronomical and hardly anyone would be able to afford to show there!trade stand costs at prestigious shows are enormous cos of the amount of  people there so the poor trade stand owners are made to pay large amounts as the organisers think theyre making massive amounts of money.we get the same thing when we do game fairs and bike shows or any other one off organised event.without them most organisers couldnt afford to stage the show so take pity on the trade stand owners and go along and spend your money with them and make sure they make a profit!cos if they dont and they stop going, there probably wont be a crufts show again! :D

I don't agree Kris, our entry wouldn't anymore than what they are at a normal champ show such as LKA, we just wouldn't need as much room.

SO GLAD I found this thread, I too will be a Crufts virgin and had the same delema about metal or canvas. It all sounds very exciting and nerveracking all at the same time but I aim to enjoy myself. I will be travelling by train on my own and getting a taxi to the venue. I may need to call on K9s for assistance to find the hall lol. Hope to maybe see a few of your wonderful dogs there. Thank you for all your helpful advice. Nora

Your passes should have come with a map of the NEC . we are in hall 4 , you enter the NEC by hall 5 and go in, up stairs and whippets are in the far right hand corner on the left  easy ;) C U there :huggles:

Unless you're me and get completely lost EVEN with the map EVERY year I've been :b

It is as easy as Jax says, just not for those of us with absolutely no sense of direction, severe claustrophobia, and an insane fear of being lost

Hope you really enjoy it

It's the thought of all those trade stands and people shopping that is reallly putting me off going to Crufts to watch.

I would be much more inclined to go if it was smaller, cheaper, and just dog orientated.

Marie,

Don't worry there are enough of us on this site, that will keep an eye on your dog if you need to pop to the loo or want a quick look around.

My mum normally comes with me and she keep an eye on them, but worries every time I disappear incase I am needed in the ring.

Just enjoy the day!!!

Jenny

Ps what is your surname as you might be benched my me, might is Taylor.

I agree. I intend to go on Sunday as a spectator, but in some ways I'm dreading it because of the crowds and all those trade stands. I intend to get there early, watch the showing, and then try and find my way out again. I nearly had a panic attack last time being swept up in the crowds and I'm not usually bothered by being in a crowd. It's getting rediculous now......it's just not enjoyable at all anymore unless you get there as soon as it opens.

I much prefer the LKA, which is Crufts without all the superfluous trade stands and visiting public. It's shame whippets don't get awarded CC's at this show though.

They do this year!

I am setting up camp at our benches and will only be venturing to the ringside to watch the judging, certainly no mooching round the halls for me. I did last year and it completely stressed me out! :(

I 'm not great in big crowds at the best of times, but I found it worse than ever last year. As we've got to be there early, we should reach the safety of our benches before the hordes of people arrive!! :- "

I really am looking forward to seeing the judging this year and hope to see lots of my friends in the cards! :huggles:

I must be very lucky, as I absolutely love Crufts, and so does Zephyr :huggles: - he really loves all the attention and walking round the show and meeting lots of people and dogs, so it is always a thrill and a pleasure to be there.

i think that if you imagine the kennel club would charge the same as any other ch show for crufts then youd be rudely awakened!theyd still charge more quoting its prestigiousness with the public and exhibitors alike as a reason for you to be charged more!if more and more people who have stands want stands then the kennel club isnt going to turn away all that lovely money either :- " .

dont know what the current prices are for classes at ch shows but i do remember showing in london and i have to say yes the trade stands there WERE all dog related.i went to crufts with daughter a couple of years ago and tbh i hardly recognised it.i know its called the worlds greatest dog show and they like a bit of razzamatazz but my goodness it was a bit ott!there were stands there that didnt have anything to do with dogs.dont know why theyd think theyd make money at a dog show if theyre selling something thats got nothign to do with dogs as most dog folk i would think spend their pennies on doggy stuff.from what i can remember the kennel club believe in pushing the boat out for crufts as they know it attracts the public and a lot of foreign exhibitors so they have the beautiful flower displays and all the other things that are laid on to make the show look good.none of its free and someone has to pay for it and i guess if they charge the exhibitors a little more then theyll still pay it as a lot of people still think a win at crufts is a much bigger/better win than at any other show probably cos of the tv coverage and cos the general public know what crufts is but wouldnt have a clue if you told them your dog had won a 1st at L.K.A.!the trade stand holders have to pay what the kennel club charge or else not go.either way it is the kennel club that rakes the money in.does anyone have a breakdown of the costs/profits from running crufts? :- " are they even published for the perusal of us common plebs? o:)

As I said in an earlier post the cost for first entry in a breed with Challenge Certificates it ranges from £20 to £24 per dog.

Hi guys

I just measured my friends fabric crate - its 22 inches in width. Im sure that would be ok. I was talking to a friend and he said that i could even phone bannerdown benching and they might be able to tell me the width of the whippet benches!?

Only 10 days people............. (w00t)

Just going to sit and watch all day this year armed with catalogue , camera, notebook .. and some pennies if i have a quick run of the gauntlet!
