She's 6 months old we where told she's a Yorkshire terrier cross shih tzu but she's got very long legs, curly fur, long nose her body's long too and she's 11 inches tall at her shoulders shes got yorkie colouring and the pictures of her with black fur are from when she was younger she's Gray tan and white now.

She looks a bit yorkie but does it really matter? You could do a DNA test if it really bothers you and otherwise just accept her as a beautiful and totally unique pup who loves you.

thanks for replying, we're thinking about gettting a dna test in the future but they're so expensive lol. we're just curious about what breeds shes got in her think she's abit of everything

I'm wondering if she could indeed be Yorkie x shih tzu. Apparently Yorkies normally go up to 9" tall (to the withers) and shih tzus up to 11", but some do go over - and I'm sure Yorkies have shrunk over the years.

So if she is a Yorkie x shih tzu, I'd guess she very much favours the Yorkie side - is she supposed to be a first cross? I'm not an expert at all though - but she's certainly gorgeous!

Thank you for replying you've been so helpful her mum was a full yorkie and her dad was a yorkie cross shih tzu so she's only 25% shih tzu but we where wondering why she's so big and so different looking from a yorkie if she's 75% full yorkie neither of her parents where pedigree and when we went to view her litter her parents where very big for small dogs too. But she could be what they say- it can be a lottery, the gene pool. Even length of leg won't be a simple gene but several alleles. (Look at people- my friend is my height, 5'4" ish, and has a sister of 5' 8")

Wow I have a friend who has a rescue dog called Maude and she is very much like your little cutie but her ears are very long although stand not floppy. she is definitely a Yorkie cross but could be so many others....what ever your dog is doesn't matter she is gorgeous.

From the pics she defo looks a lot yorkie, especially the younger pics of her. She is a beautiful little dog and full of character I bet! I know it's interesting but does it really matter her breed? My 2nd yorkie I took on had a pedigree as long as your arm but looked vaguely alien like with her long body, not much fur and no teeth!( she was 12 when I got her and had been fed on cat food!).. Enjoy, I am sure she will bring you a lot of love and smiles

Ergo, odds are very likely that such a mating would be t'other way round: F Shih-Tzu, M Yorkie.

Pups tend to mature to be at least Mum's size - if Mum is significantly smaller than Dad, they'll be in-between, as a tiny dam can't whelp a massive pup. A too-small bitch bred to a too-big sire can die, if her pups outgrow her pelvic girdle - Nature tries to limit their size, but some dams will need an emergency C-section to deliver pups with oversize skulls who can't be delivered vaginally.

Looking at her, i see no reason to think she's NOT 3/4 Shih-tzu / 1/4 Yorkie cross-bred, & the fading of her black-&-tan puppy coat to blue-&-beige is perfectly normal, for Yorkie pigment.

Hi Terry I wish more people would take note of what you have said regarding mating lager male breeds to small ones like little Yorkies. Believe it or not my brother had a strange looking dog years ago which was a cross between a F Patterdale & Male Doberman. The origin owner so called breeder was known to my brother who told who him that the mating took place as a joke. The poor mum died while trying to give birth to 3 pups two of which didn't survive...lets just say that the man in question had a very rough time when my brother found out.

@Barnyboy, that's really sad And as for the mating take place as a joke As a small framed 5'0", I was worried enough about giving birth with OH being a broad-shouldered 6'2"

Of course it doesn't matter what mix a dog is, but personally I'd want to know, out of curiosity. And sometimes it can help understand a dog's personality and their needs. A saluki x lurcher is likely to have very different requirements to a collie x lurcher, for example.
