What a great outcome to a sad story.

Cream carpets and ornaments dont mix with a whippie, whatever age they are.

But IMO children and Whippets were made for each other,

Our son would have been a lonely child at times without his best friends.

Great news about Lily , K9 stirkes gold again

and I have to agree with JOK on this one , her little boy `Conner ` is a credit to her and her familys `training , well behaved and polite around the dogs . I would be proud of him too , ( and Im well known for not `liking small humans` :- "

as with unruly dogs , its the owners not the dogs o:)

However, i firmly disagree that it is not possible to have young children with dogs.  It is.  I have never had any problems whatsoever with my child and our dogs.  It is all about teaching respect. Our dogs adore him, they are best friends and im PROUD to say have mutual respect for one and other :huggles:
Parents are at fault.  Its not difficult if you can be bothered to spend the time

I completely agree... my kids have been brought up around animals and I believe it has helped my eldest grow into a gentle, considerate young lady. My baby Millie was born when Ruby was 6 months old we continued to go to two ringcraft socialsation classes a week with baby in tow and subsequently to racing and shows. They have learnt together, Ruby treats Millie gently and we are teaching Millie to be gentle with Ruby  (it takes a little longer to train the baby ;) ). All it takes is time, planning and effort on the part of the parents. In this case I also feel for the toddler growing up in such an restrictive environment.

Only just read this. What a gorgeous little lady,  takes after her dad!!

well done Becka

Good luck to lily in her new home :luck: :luck: :luck:

That's great news

Good luck to Lily in her new home :luck: :luck: :luck: , look forward to seeing her grow up on k9.

Well done Beaka and Jane

Fantastic news.

Looking forward to seeing more piccies of Lilly as she settles into her new home.

:) Im glad there is a happy outcome to this story too, but I also think that children can be brought up with puppys in the house.. my son was taught how to behave with animals from an early age, and my friends always used to "borrow"

my son when she had a litter of pups on so that they became socialised with

children from an early age as she didnt have any children  I have many pictures of him playing in her garden with numerous puppys running round him.

He is nearly 16 now and our dogs adore him!!! :huggles:

Well............. mission accomplished  :D   :D
With alot of subterfuge and careful planning, Becka and I have 'rescued' little Lily from a home and family where she wasn't allowed to be a whippet puppy :(

Thanks to Becka, she is now running around with her Dad and friends at Becka's house, and next week she will travel down to live with Jinny here in Devon forever.......... yippee!!!!!!  :D   :D

I am so relieved and excited about this....... she is the most lovely little girl and will be a perfect running mate for Jinny

And yes, I am adding to my whippet family sooner than planned but, hey, what's one more when they are so worthwhile and loveable in every way

Here's some more pics ............

Isn't she just perfect ?????

Jane Ive just caught up with this again

Im delighted for you.....what a brilliant outcome to this story.

i hope you have many happy years together. :huggles:

Also agree with Littlenell here too...

and I wanted to add also to the 'anti kiddie' people....that I too had a 2 year old daughter when I got my first whippet puppy in my married home, and they got along brilliantly...but must add I did teach my children how to behave with a puppy also and vic versa.. It can work...you just need to have patience and understanding which these folks didnt obviously have.....so children and whippets do mix and can.. :)

Thanks, Hilary :D

Not sure yet :- "

Must admit that I'm not keen on Lily as a name for her - she's a bit too much of a hell-raiser (w00t)

Becka has come up with some suggestions already ...... some which I don't think I'm allowed to repeat in public

I was thinking about Tiggy (Tigs) because of her stripes! Also thought about Tilly, cos it sounds like Lily, or maybe Tizzy (Tizz), because she is in one!!!!!

It needs to sound different to my other 3, Jinny (JinJin), Rio and Abi.

All suggestions on a 'post' please

What about Fable as she has such a little story attached to her :))

Firstly, fantastic that she has a great new home to go to. Lily is a great name, I have a dark brindle called Lily.

With regard to small children, I think it is entirely up to how the parents view the pup. If the parents want the puppy for THEMSELVES and are prepared to work hard to ensure the pup gets the respect it needs then I see no problem. When I vet a potntial owner with children I invite them to meet my Whippets and the pups ( at a suitable age) and I watch how the PARENTS expect their children to behave, if the children are very young then I make a judgement from talking to the parents and finding out how they deal with any existing pets. I have homed 4 pups with children, the youngest being 15 months. I have had no problems ( thank goodness) and the dogs are very loved and well cared for. I think you have to judge individually, Jo's little boy is fantastic around all my dogs. He is nearly 3 and treats them with care and respect. That comes from the parents.

Oh goody! I love doing this and I didn't think Lily suited her either. She does have the  in her eye and no mistake! Off the top of my head I thought of Lottie or Lexie. None of your names are that usual and I haven't heard of many or either of those.

I was brought up with dogs from a baby and was taught to respect them and leave them in peace. I have a young cousin who hasn't been taught this and it's caused friction in the past! The lad is now nearly 5 and I wouldn't trust him with any of mine! It's definitely down to the parents! :- "
