Have just read that dogs can learn up to 50 words in any language! Just for a laugh how many does your dog(s) understand? I'll start with mine...

Walk(ies)

Mum/Dad

Car

Stay/Wait/Come/Down

Baby (as in cuddly toy!)

Rabbit(!)

Squirrel (they always look into the trees when we say this!)

Naughty(!)

Bed

Tea

Toilet/Wee

Fire

Zak (the name of my horse!)

Find

Piggy's ear!

Bath - usually greeted with a hasty retreat and tail down!

They also know each others names!

Can't think of any more at the moment!

Holly bless her, isn't the brightest spark ever :- " She understands the basics:

Din Din - Yummy means foody :)

Biccy - Yummy means foody :))

Night night - Yummy means foody :) (rich tea biccy in bed  )

Bally - Yummy means foody :) (small biccys hid inside bally ;) )

Holly Here - Yummy means foody :) (if i return mummy gives me biccy out of coat pocket :- " )

Ellie May however is just too damn smart for her own good, understands every damn thing you say to her & interprets it just they way she wants to :(

Ellie May, come here! - "You talking to me"??? "Get lost" (w00t)

Ellie May, Din Din - "You talking to me"????? "Get lost" (w00t)

That is because she is a Hunter thru and thru!!!!

And YES!!! her brother and sister are EXACTLY the same, they understand full sentences perfectly well like...."I hardly think we need that!" (when they have picked up something they should'nt in their mouths and are trying to carry it home) they drop it instantly when they hear the sentence!! They also know "who did that??" and "give me your paw,(which they do) now give me the other one" (again which they do)

We used to have a Flat coat retriever called Bronson, who my Dad had taught loads of things to.....He could turn the tap on and get a drink of water and then turn it off again! If you told him to "shut the door" he went over and jumped up at the door and walked on his back legs to close it. "have a seat" and he sat on the poufee with his bum on it and his front feet on the floor."Bang Bang!!" and point your fingers at him like you were holding a gun and he fell down and played dead. And he'd fetch numerous things if asked like "slippers" "paper" "remote" etc. He lived to the ripe old age of 18 and then died of a heart-attack and he is still sorely missed now!! A one in a million dog.

Mine know:

Right - depending exactly HOW it is uttered can mean something good is about to happen, like a walk or Uh Oh! She really means it now, we're in trouble

Here you are! (which means come here & you'll get a treat)

or alternatively, same meaning

What's this?

Don't you DARE! (self explanatory! usually followed by a loudish RIGHT if ignored!)

I'm watching you!

Who did this??? (Often not many whippets to be seen when asking this question)

You are SO bad!

plus all the normal stuff although in our household

Squirrels are Tree Bunnies

Pheasant are Chucky Bunnies

Ducks are Quacky Bunnies

Cats are Leave the bl**dy cat alone

Deer .......... we don't mention them

Chloe knows a lot of words. The Whippets know slightly fewer, but pretend that they actually understand none

Oh I forgot... my baby (8months on Sunday) knows her name in dozens of different meanings...

Lottie!!! - come here baby

Lottie!!! - who shredded these tissues

Lottie!!! - you've not wee-wee'd again

Lottie!!! - stop sitting on Milly-lab's head!

Lottie!!! - don't eat Zoomie!

Lottie!!! - look at this lovely biscuit

Lottie!!! - what a lovely cuddle

Lottie!!! - where's your bunny

Lottie!!! - don't eat Zinzin's food, she'll eat you!

Lottie!!! - what a clever girl sitting/standing/eating up her dinner

and finally...

Lottie!!! - rock-a-bye baby (please go to sleep)....

I'm sure you don't mean that (w00t)

Hebe can find a particular toy out of the toy box, I say, Wheres...??? & then either tuggy, bally, BIG bally, piggy, squid (this is actually an octopus but she knows it as Squid :- " ) etc..

Blankie...& she'll pull the throw off the settee & lie on it

In the kitchen if I've got my hands full I say "shut the door" & she'll push it to with her nose.

She knows any word to do with food :- "

Scrumpy knows the name of her best friend "Tanner" & quite a few other words.

Rafferty doesn't even know his name some days but his all time favoutite word is "Bedtime" -_-

Say Walkies & he'll sneak off into his basket & hope we forget to take him

Say Dinner & he may just get out of bed to see if it's worth eating

Say "Bedtime for Bedlingtons" & he's up those stairs like a flash
