Ive read a lot of opinions in the drug testing thread which includes a lot of differing opinions from people I have a lot of respect for and it got me wondering just how wide spread do people think this problem is so I would be grateful if people would take the time to vote, who knows we might even learn something.....well I might anyway :)

Some interesting results so far Marie

Think that there is enough to be a significant problem [ 26 ] [52.00%]

I think this is a shocking inditement on our sport, that over half of those who have answered think drug abuse to be a significant problem.

I think a more signifiant question John is why do people think this?

Keep the votes coming folks....really do want to know peoples true opinions, its anonimous so vote what you really think

Thanks

Marie

one of answer from me not having a dig... but i think this is a terible advert for the sport :( from the state of that poll looks like folks think half th whippets in the country are running on drugs :( after the last few years in testing no one has given a positive test  why not just invite defra and co into the game thats whats going to happen if this continues  there will be no racing left soon :( i agree with rob poole get on and enjoy this sport while we can if anyone uses any banned substance or any enhancers they win a race then what go home with your trophy and little money and think well i didnt really win that they have to live with there own guilt and shame :( but cant see what good such a poll in k9 will do for bringing the sport forward the way its going it is being ripped apart :(

Its a sad state of affairs if the poll shows that many k9 users think people are giving there dogs drugs

I used to worry my self sick at the thought of my kids taken drugs while they were growing up and what it can lead to ...

If theres that many think drugs can make dogs run faster , then why is there so many dogs going to pet homes that are not fast enough ...

It is only being ripped apart gary by those people who do use drugs................not quite sure why some people get so twitchy talking about it and discussing it. Not sure what your problem is with Marie putting the poll up either. And as for their being no positive results, that doesnt mean people arent using drugs. Until the system for testing dogs is at a level whereby all reasonable doubt of contamination is achieved, whether that is by the process, people or otherwise then I dont think you can suggest that it proves no use of drugs.

I am sure DEFRA can look at whippet racing any time they want, not just because we talk about the possibility that drugs might be being used. It's scaremongering to suggest that, but does have the effect of silencing some people who might have valid questions to ask.

not a problem just dont think its a good advert for the sport im entitled to my opinion and expected you to be the first to answer chris :) no problem with marie just the poll

ps ive had dogs tested quite a few times so im not twitchy :- " so if druging dogs seems that popular who are the ones doing it

Im really new to whippet racing and recently went to watch the racing at Highgate....i believe it was a championship . I had a brilliant time, watched some cracking races but i have to say i was amazed that all the winners werent automatically drug tested. I had heard that dogs were drug tested and so just presumed that at such an important event all winners would be required to provide a sample. Shows how little i know :D

This forum is open to everyone. 100's of people can come in every day,,,,,,who is voting ? are they all non ped racer's ?

I dont race now, but I dont think drugs are a huge problem in our racing, with the drug testing going on :)

My dogs are part of the family, who do sleep in our bedrooms and lay on our sofa,,bloody rule the house at times  , but it is a fun sport,,well it should be :D

EDIT for the few dont know us we gave up racing due to my health, not the dogs as Gizmo was open class and still taking up the sofa

not quite sure how i feel about how much drugs get used etc but i do believe the testing does act as a deterent. denise bailey raised an intersting point though. if theres loads of drugs use going on then why do people get rid of dogs that dont make open class they give them 2 pet homes etc, not everyone like but some do.

and whos using drugs its like pointing the finger at past and present winners so whos guilty dosnt make sence  agree with susan could be any number of folk voting not just non peders

NO GOOD HAVING A POLL IF ITS TAKING PEOPLES VOTES FOR JUST BROWSING

THIS IS MAKEING THE SPORT LOOK BAD

ITS NOWHERE AS BAD AS THIS POLL IS SHOWING

SHOLD BE DONE RIGHT OR NOT AT ALL :b

When voting in a poll on K9 you must cast your vote before viewing the result, if you look at the result and then try to cast a vote it will not let you. This has nothing to do with me it is the way the polls on the board work. I have always assumed this is so you give your vote not influenced by the results. As I say not me it the way K9 works.

I have to say I have been very surprised by the results because I actually think using drugs is very rare but I dont think it is ever wrong to ask questions. I do wonder if the view that it is a problem is perhaps so widespread due to people suggesting that the problem exists to each other without any factual basis at all.
