Just to point out this is topic was started in 2003! Dee it depends on what is in the product. DMSO is absorbed into the body to name one example. It states this clearly in the accompanied paperwork. Ibuprofen gels are absorbed by the body apparently but to a considerably lesser extent than Ibuprofen tablets.

See link, specifically absorption of topical agents

Tbh I'm not sure if any of this has any relevance anyway when it appears drug testing of racing whippet has stopped.
Thanks Jac very interesting

very interesting but if there no testing does it realy matter what people use to warm there dogs up (w00t)

Three different trainers, all attached to tracks. All dogs tested a fair bit after races, and never a positive from the rubs mentioned. Every dog that goes out the kennel has been rubbed in before it leaves for the track. The testing is sensitive, even poppy seeds on bread is a no no.. But nothing wrong with TC.. Curako and the orange muscle rub.

The fact that these whippets are mostly our pets, could easily show a positive test. The bit of sandwich you give them, the cuppa tea that they're finished ( seen that done at Highgate at presentation ) the list would go on, but your ok with rubbing your dogs in!

i have heard nnwrf have been talking to a few organisations to get a package for the future. previous labs want silly money better deals to be had over the water.

wouldnt worry about a ham sarny slops out of your cup failed test needs far more than that unless you drink neat caffine (w00t) .

be great to see it come in and if there are folks dopping there dogs get them out as oviously not thinking of the dogs welfare, and give the genuine dogs a chance .

maybe talks with the gbgb would help.

be interesting to see if there any progress with testing in the future

Take the **** all you want!

The poppy seeds off bread show up as opiates.. And caffine from tea would show up. Test done by the gbgb are very sensitive and trainers get fined a nice few quid if they get a positive! I work with greyhounds and know first hand what I'm taking about. You come on here, post something that you hope might help, and all you get are tossors having a go.It seems more of a sport than racing itself!

good lass don't take no shit lol at the end of the day theres not many things you can give a dog that will not show up on a test

whether it be a drink or licking a cut thats had cut and heal on but it all boils down to none of these are performance enhancers

Don't know David very well but know him well enough to know he meant no malice and is one person I consider to be a sporting gentleman when it comes to racing.

I can't help feel that insults and arguments both at the track and on the internet have done more harm to the sport than anything. Ask anyone who's left, it's never about others cheating, it's always about being worn down by all the bad blood going on in the sport.

got to agree daveys one of the nicest blokes in the sport he will do anything for anyone

this testing thing has always got peoples back up,and dogs should be tested IMO there would be some new faces winning

instead of the same old faces picking up the plastic..like dave says leave it to the top tables, nowt will get done like

but its time it was brought up again, maybe not 0 % but some sort of checks made..again its my opinion

good point, but the winners have out performed the rest ????????

Yesterday afternoon I read back through your post on here David and noticed how you wrote. Made me think I'd got it wrong, that it was just how you wrote. I spoke to a friend of mine in the afternoon, who said your at the same club. I'd told her to apologise to you for me, way before all the post on here of what a good bloke you are. I use the word tossor a bit like you use smiley faces, we need to put them in the right places, because as you see, it's easy to be offended.

Testing has always got people's backs up, Kenny's right.

You have a bunch of people who know that testing has caused this sport nothing but a load of aggravation and has never been carried out correctly. Then a bunch of people who i can't help but feel are a little naive that expect it can be done and it will make a difference. People keep going on about testing like the GBGB but the GBGB is a massive organisation that gets a fair amount of media coverage from papers & sky, they have to be on the ball with testing but they have the money and dish out the fines to cover it being done spot on. We pay £15 a year and expect tests done to their standard, the GBGB would PTSL.

It's an easy and very naive assumption to make that those who win regularly drug their dogs to do so, much easier for people to think that than to actually give the owners the credit that they know the arse end from the front end, their dogs are fast and that they devote their lives to getting their dogs to perform to the highest of their ability. Dogs being "helped out" in a way to enhance their performance DON'T compete well week in week out and don't have a long successful career, if i was inclined to point the finger it would be a dog that had shown no class and then just turned up and ass whooped everything, NOT one that wins regularly.

With regards to doing random testing on entrants (not just the winners) what's the point, it's not like greyhound racing where their could be an advantage to losing (people stopping their dogs to secure a gamble).

  yes there is some gr8 dog people, but theres some new members with gr8 dogs that dont know how

to get that extra yard out of a promising animal, but thats a new thread for carole to start.. HOW DO YOU GET THAT EXTRA YARD LOL

IMO they should be some sort of testing instead of saying odd times theres going to be a test.do a test!

i think its time the bwra spent some cash on a test, yes i know theres no testing in the bwra,0% time for a change there like

as i know for a fact metacam is used like a tonic just to mask a injury to win races

i dont race but still love the sport, the money it costs people to travel the country it should be run fairly

but again to add good trophies, and pay outs its just impossible to test on top of that..

god knows how it can be done but heads want putting together and try and get it sorted

best of luck  ..oh good thread this

yes i agree the winners have out performed the rest but that does not mean they should be tested because they have won IMO.

i know the ins and out regarding greyhound racing and its a well known fact that these dogs are regualy STOPPED from running to there full potencial also when its the right time to gamble them they are messed about with again.

there are some great trainers in the non ped racing who deserve alot of credit for the way they keep there dogs in great condition at all times and are winning week in week out does this mean they are using something NO it dosent imo.

I must agree with this - have always said so-Lots and lots of hours of hard work[/b] /weight/walking/running free/bike work /ball play /feeding /knowing your own dog and how to train it/this is the secret to success coupled with a little bit of luck on the day-with the conditions that suit your dog -Most important in my opinion is having a HAPPY DOG ---that gives you the extra to win--
