poor poor things :(

alot of them was straying in the leeds area :(

That is truly terrible, poor dogs, what a way to end up like. Of course they are just a comodity, to throw away when it won't run any more.

The Greyhound Racing Board or who ever they are should address this problem, so should this awful government.

They are only dogs and nobody really cares and it is up to the charities to pick up the pieces and look after these poor animals.

There are too many litters bred and greyhounds have large litters, it all boils down to money.

I do dispaire, the problem seems to be getting worse.

cartonitte 300 races...... condition tired. bloody disgusting and they ought to be ashamed though i doubt they are. those that end up going from ireland to spain are being condemned to a living hell :(

It is tragic that so many greyhounds come to such a sad end, especially when they have such lovely natures, just like our whippets.

I am afraid those listed only seem to be the greyhounds taken in by one centre plus some in spain. There are hundreds more discarded every year, here and in Ireland. My retired greyhound was from a sanctuary that re-homes greyhounds for the Retired Greyhound Trust. She had been handed over to their care by her trainer. Some ex-racers can never be rehomed so stay in the Sanctuaries. Such places plus the RGT are always worthy of our support.

What about the owners...are they not as accountable as the trainers?

Yes,i agree.I think all Greyhounds, being tattooed, should be tracked from the cradle to the grave. That why, both trainers and owners are made accountable.

Its about both.

Maybe the thread title was ment to put you off????

Take one of the dogs Slippy Mac.

Whelped 1999... race and was rehomed.

Owner after a few years became ill the RSPCA was asked to take over the dog the RSPCA rehomed the dog.... dog later found wandering very thin in Feb 2007

Very sad indeed. Heartbreaking. In many cases I really believe that an organised, responsible euthanasia programme for these dogs would be a more honourable ending when they have finished their racing career. I'm not trying to shock, start an argument or say greyhounds should not be in the public domain, such as the one on the greyhound forum recently. Let's face it, thousands are bred and cast aside every year, they can't all be rehomed as pets.

What is more cruel - a quick and relatively painfree ending or being sent to Spain?

Yes of course, it is. But trainers train for people that own the dogs.

Fair enough.

But if you read throught this list

Think that you might find that some of these dogs have been rehomed and then abandoned.

Also that some have never ever since a NGRC track or even a trainer, down to indvidual cases and not down to a Scum trainer who dumps their dog.
