Against my better judgement, both mine are on A/Bs. I have washed bedding, disinfected beds, and am rushing round with a cloth and antiseptic. As for myself, I will avoid contact with other dogs, have a good handwashing routine, and hopefully, fingers crossed, we won't infect any-one else.My heart is breaking tonight, Archie (intolerant grumpy man) keeps checking Fynn is Ok when he has a little episode. Archie has only coughed once, but has swollen lymph glands. Poor Fynny, he'll be fine, but it is sad :(   :(   :(

Poor Archie & Fynn - Hope they get better soon Jo

I FEEL SORRY FOR EVERYONE THAT HAS KENNEL COUGH AND ISOLATION + MEDICINE IS THE ONLY WAY. WORD IS AROUND THE CLUBS BY NOW AND INFECTED DOGS WILL HOPEFULLY BE KEPT AWAY FROM RACING BY OWNERS. I DO NOT FEEL THAT STOPPING RACING WILL DO ANYTHING TO STOP THIS. KENNEL COUGH IS A VICIOUS CIRCLE AND NO ONE CAN STOP THIS EACH YEAR IT POPS UP AND IT PROBABLY COMES FROM OUTSIDE RACING WHERE DOGS SHARE COMMUNAL AREAS WITH INFECTED DOGS.

Hi hope your dogs are better soon :huggles:

Some dogs do start with sneezing

Since antibiotics dont fight the kennal cough you can speed up their recovery by boosting their immune system with plenty of Vitimin C, Honey and Echinacea (from the health shop)

You will be suprised how quickly they recover as kennal cough can go on for weeks and in some cases I have seen a few months :(

hi guys,

my vet is brill and advises not to vaccinate as there are so many strains around, a bit like human flu, you vaccinate against one strain but not the other 100! Also my local kennels dont bother for the same reasons. We had a really bad christmas several years ago with the pointers coughing like old men. The best thing seemed to be non drowsy benylin (also advided by vet to do this), i stuck with children sized doses as my dogs weigh in at about 27kg but whips will be diffferent due to weight......

we took our 5 mth pup to Weyhill so i am relieved to say no signs of coughing (thankfully) as we could do without a houseful of dogs coughing. Last time i also seemed to pick it up. yeah i know all the medics out there are thinking not, but after Pagan coughed into my face and sprayed me with gloop (yitch) i went down with a really nasty cough soon as!

Just watch out with pain relief for dogs as they are wierdly sensitive to some seemingly innocent pills that we might mistakenly give to ease symptoms of feeling rough. Ask the vet.

hope all of the coughing dogs out there feel better soon.... :(

Yep Benylins good stuff when they're coughing :D ..........and you are right there is a strain that we can catch (w00t) ........Glad your puppy hasn't caught it, and welcome to K9 ......Hannah

Our boys [Dandy and Magic] seem OK.They both had a "quiet say" on Thurs and Fri resp`yl but are in RUDE health now.

HOWEVER their Dad has a raging sore frote and bunged uop hooter. Pollen or KC?

:(

Hope all the other whippies are clear/recovering. :luck:

Gavin

Glad your boys are ok Gavin :D Sorry to hear about your bunged up hooter  All our gang have fully recovered & fighting fit, even little Odds

Sorry to hear your unwell Gav :( I hope you feel better soon :) ........Glad to hear your lot are fine now Cheryl  ..........Connies ok now but poor little Eir is coughing his socks up :( ........

Four of our five are now all coughing like good uns - started about 5 days after Tyler came down with it, this was 8/9 days after Andover open at Weyhill, so as others above have said it does seem to be about 10 days incubation period.

Tyle is fine now (only really affected him for a couple of days) so hoping that the others are all clear soon too (at least they all started on same day Friday, so don't have to wait for any others to come down with it - trying to look for any positives  ). Fingers crossed for all you out there recovering or who have managed to stay clear so far :luck:

Fingers crossed for your boys Darcia, :luck: hope to catch up with you somewhere in the future and have a good natter about the speedway.

Thanks for that Paula, Yep, good job that we have the speedway, keeps you going at times like this. We were looking forward to Fletch's first run back from injury in the maiden at our home club Gloucester and it would also have been Merle's first run as a veteran (he is 6 on the friday) so really gutted about missing it.

But the boys don't seem to think that they are ill (despite the grim coughing), they seem happy and full of beans so hopefully a quick recovery is on the cards and in the meantime I have home and away matches against Coventry to look forward to on thursday and friday (before an away match to your team next Monday - which I am not looking forward too - don't think that I will bother to travel up for that one :p ).

Nice to see two top clubs already sitting pretty near the top of the league  (see it's working, I'm smiling now!)

I think Kaos started the day after Tyler and like yours Darc, it took another 5 days for the others to start so the incubation period seems to be pretty consistent. Kaos had one really bad day so our lot are all on antibiotics now :( At least we're getting a lot done to the van :D

Other positive Darc is that your dogs are now on the mend and they shouldn't get it again this year.

At least we can stop waiting to see if we get it :)

Yeah, that's true!

Have all of yours started aswell now Judy? it seems to have hit the others a bit more than Tyler (well they are coughing more) even though they are still high spirited, Ross seems to have pretty much stopped now, so just waiting......

So Dave, are you doing the traps, bike, PA, line judging and trophies at Glos???? :D  :D

Yep! they've all started now Darc. Kaos is still coughing a bit too.

The cough doesn't seem to have hit the entry for Gloucester as much as I though it would though. We've got 114 at the moment and the post man hasn't arrived yet plus I expect I'll get some more phone calls today. Not bad considering I know there are quite a few that haven't entered because of the cough.

Does anyone know if any dogs that had it last year - there were some I know - have had it this year?
