lalena said:one to two, really.anyone sensible wont flood the market, so to speak. many people breed when they want for themselves, and have homes lined up for the 'surplus' before even mating their bitches. breeding lots of litters is bad for any breed its harder to find so many good homes when large numbers of pups are being bred. this means that either the breeder faces taking back several pups, or the breeder wont, which means that these pups end up in rescue or worse
lalena said:thats it, isnt it  a lot of people dont even bother to think about things, like is their bitch worth breeding from to begin with, or whether a stud, no matter how good he is, is the right one for that bitch to breed to the best of your ability, you have to consider these things. research family history, health problems etc, getting your girl as fit as possible, feeding her through pregnancy, while nursing a litter, and what of worming, jabs? is the dam up to date with these? or socialisation for the litter? imo, if you put that much effort in to a litter, you get buyers who will care for them as much as you do if you dont put the effort in, you get buyers who wont either

luckily both my pups are from great breeders who have given me lovely dogs and i know they are there night and day if i needed their advice even now

I agree ALL puppy farmers should be shut down ........NAMED AND SHAMED is what I say ...........Glad you have dogs from such great breeders  .............I love nothing more than finding out about the pups I've bred most weeks ........Its great to have FULL contact with ALL of the owners of my pups and I love seeing all of the photos as they grow .........I do know of some breeders who have never made contact with the owners of puppies they've sold though
Roedeane said:From the other side of the coin ,when I have bought in a pup it's upsetting to find out that the breeder you thought cared doesn't want to know about any of the pups' show wins etc. I love hearing about the pups I breed for the whole of their lives
