You say that people breed their bitches with Sonny based on his working ability.

I have 7 whippets who hunt every day of their lives. The 'show bred's are superior in the field where as my 'working breds' couldnt catch a hedgehog......and one of them is afraid of flies.

Theyve all been reared the same. I guess its down to each individuals spirit/adrenalin.

My mother was a model in the 60's and my father was an accademic.....I aint no oil painting and Im dyslexic!

Love and respect your dogs for what they are. Whether they are show bred or working bred, ultimately they are all individuals.

and where have I said I dont love and respect my dogs?

and dont forget folks follow ingsays advice which basically means 2 negatives make a plus,

we all know there are exceptions to the rule but ..............................................................

lets see some of your whippets catches ingsay, with 7 of them hunting everyday you must have some great pics to share

No show breeder can guarantee all the pup's in a litter are going to be showing quality...if this is so would you still sell pup's for £450 + to pet home's.No one on here has said they are all show quality any more than I would think all your dogs ( or any dogs ) offspring will be top class workers. My friend has pups by a Greyhound Derby winner , but not all the pups are flyiing machines , ( we wish) [/colorOne minute your saying there are no guarantee's in a whippet pup being a worker. Then you say you would have a lurcher which the same idea aplies. So how statisticly do you have more chance of a worker with a lurcher over a whippet.

Would show whippet's not be sold based on observation...The differance is observing Darren's dogs you get to see what's on the inside aswell as what is on the outer.

what an odd statement . made me lau.ghexplain please, if you can ,

If you read the statement wrote above the one i wrote...My statement will explain it self.

good post.

horses for courses and each to his own. I don't look at a whippet and think just because it can catch rabbits that it's any more value or a better whippet than one that runs fast or does well in the show ring. We all want different things from our dogs. Personally I don't want one with a strong prey drive due to my other animals so I remain unimpressed by a dog that can catch a lot of rabbits.

I'll be honest and say for me DarrenG, too many of your posts are full of how great your whippet is cos it catches lots of rabbits...all well and good if that's what YOU want...but why not just post all your working pride in the right section rather than trying to ram it down everyone's throats and then want to argue the toss that your dogs the best flippin' dog in the land and no other breeder is as good and the pups are the best blah blah blah.

No one cares unless they're your buddies or customers......

it's crap like these antagonistic threads that are ruining this forum for the likes of me.

Oh Darren Darren Darren, it was a general statement. Dont be so defensive :teehee:

I dont actively hunt so no trophy photo's Im afraid. Besides, only one of them naturally retrieves to hand.

My dogs accompany me to work in the outdoors each day and have the freedom to do what comes naturally to them.

Its the team work and indivudual roles that each dog plays within that team that fascinates me, not the number they catch

ermm because it wasnt about working dogs, but as usual on here if it isnt about showing then the HRT kicks in and everyone thinks that those of us that use whippets for their original purpose need kicking down

it was about how fantastic you think your dog is for catching loads of rabbits and that practically every bitch owner from here to kingdom come( apart from show whippet owners and decent caring breeders)wants to breed with your dog because it's such a good rabbiter...hmmm rabbiting day and night sounds like working to me.

Just for the record I am not the slightest bit interested in whippet showing, neither am I old enough to have HRT.....also for the record this whole forum isn't just about you and your opinion about your dog(yes yes he catches lots of rabbits), it's supposed to be a community where we can all enjoy the diversity of whippets.

Some people show their whippets(shock horror) get over it!!

.on the other hand perhaps the rest of us on here will get so fed up with your threads we'll go elsewhere and this forum can be renamed.." Darren's Real Whippet Forum" and you can talk to yourself and your big piles of dead rabbits.

RIP K9 Community.
