GREAT PHOTOS WHICH JUST OPITOMISE THE NATURE OF DEERHOUNDS..

You know, Sprout, you just have the BEST dogs! She's a superstar - love the pic on the sofa with the cat - the look on her face is just adorable!

Yes, those photos above are lovely. That's a fantastic 4 pages on lurchers and longdogs in this issue of Countryman's Weekly (7/4/05)... are the front cover "models" of Bill Doherty's breeding?

She's gorgeous Sprout. Big softy, cuddly thing.

Out of the puppy stage is she? Hmm. You want to see Talisman playing with my whippet pup. Tally will be 4 in May. Alan had a lot of fun yesterday when he spotted a large herd of deer in the woods opposite my house. Luckily Tally was on the lead so only Alan's arms were lengthened.

Love the photo of Darcy in the snow.

Thing is....in the Deerhound books it says they mature at three. So, last week, (6th April) I announced to Darcy that she was now officially mature and therefore, she must behave accordingly.

She listened intently...

Righty ho then (w00t)

She thought about it didn't she. :D Decided that you were wrong life would be far too boring.

Only difference with Tally is that he's bodied up a bit. :b

BTW does Darcy do tiptoeing or what I think of as the stealthy walk? Tally does this when he doesn't want to be noticed. He walks very slowly and carefully. We can't of course see him when he's doing this as he's walking so stealthily so it has nothing to do with the howls of laughter that the humans are making. :b

Does she belch? I find myself saying to people that wasn't me that was the deerhound. :b

She does do tippytoe walking but she's not very good at it yet. She's a touch on the clumsy side so when she's trying to be delicate and not get noticed (as she clambers on top of the dryer or similar) she tends to choose that moment to crack her head on something or knock a vase over

And yes, she does belch. The greyhounds all fart merrily. Darcy rarely farts but she belches like a goodun' :b

Do you need any more 'typical' (for typical read ridiculous) photo evidence of our life with this deerhound masterpiece? :- "

Am cracking up over this thread!   More photos! More stories! PLEASE!!! :D

Yes yes! More photos please!

Just asked my OH if I could have a deerhound. He pretended not to hear me. :(

They look so funny don't they. Big silly things as if they could be hidden. Being sneaky sounds very familiar.

They are very goat like. People say that they aren't intelligent. Why then is it that mine tends to do what he wants to and not want I him too. Sloping off somewhere is another thing that he does, normally as I'm trying to get him to go somewhere that I want him to go and he doesn't. :b

I also suppose that my house is a bit off putting for non dog people (do I know any anymore :- " ). Because no sooner have the whippets stopped battering them and licking them to death than a big hairy bony bum descends on the settee next to them. Well often if there is someone sitting at the other end the big hairy bony bum ends up on their laps.

Sprout if you give her a hug do you find that she rewards you by bring her head up sharply and smacking you a right good one on the nose with the boney skull. :b Also does she like spicy foods? Tally loves chilli carrots.

Can't have too many photos of Darcy methinks.

AND A BILL & JOHN DOHERTY BRED DEERHOUND X GREYHOUND, MERLIN WHO NOW LIVES NEAR SOUTHAMPTON

My sincere apologies to Doxhope Deerhounds and Lurchers everywhere!

My mistake, just wondered who the front cover lurchers were on CW (think they must be lurchers as they dont have what I always think of as a typical d/hound "koala" looking nose area...well I know what I mean by that, hopefully so do others!).

Have visted Doxhope link on site (cant agree more with comment about "Coronach Penny's Chieftain" - I am slightly bias as he fathered my bitch, but his record says it all does'nt it?). Cracking site, well done. Some really "racey", shapely and beautiful hounds in the photos...well worth the time to take a look, enjoyed it enormously.

VERY EXCITING NEWS!!!!!!! Have found a litter of deerhound puppies and they're in NI!!!!!!! Spoke to the owner last night, they're just 4 wks old, 3 bitches and 3 dogs, going to visit and to try to pick one (that is, try not to pick ALL of them!!!) in two weeks and ready to come home on 31 May - don't think i'll be able to sleep i'm so excited - want to see them NOW!!!

Prepare for lots and lots of pics - perfect timing too cos we've just found our new house and should be moving in about 2 wks. Can't wait for Fergal to have some doggy company, and to have a baby puupy!!!

Hi siona,
