I think I have had the most traumatic experience of my life today. It’s the first time in days it’s been dry so I thought id head out a nice long walk with Penny. We walked through the local park and then onto the old school playing fields where she loves to have a run around as there is still the sand pits where the long jump used to be held.

On our way back I was walking along a long stretch of road with houses on each side, it’s not a main road but still a busy enough road where cars can sometimes drive fast. I saw these two dogs running in our direction with a man half running behind them, they both ran right across the road to Penny in front of a car and went for her. One of them grabbed onto her back leg snarling loudly. I was in such shock I didn't know what to do I don't think I even realised it had actually caught her skin. They wouldn't leave her and kept trying to get her again and she kept pulling on her lead trying to get away from them and was crying. Then the worst thing possible happened she slipped her collar and ran.

I went into full panic mode and just ran after her shouting on her, but she was too scared as these 2 dogs kept chasing her. A couple of cars appeared and I was just dreading her getting ran over as she just ran and ran at full speed to escape them then she disappeared, Im not sure if she went down a side street or into someone’s garden. I had all these thoughts rushing through my head and there is a really busy road further along, I just burst into tears and I felt I couldn't breath as I still couldn't see her. Eventually I saw the other two dogs head back and the owner got them, a minute later I saw her and shouted on her and she came running back to me. I can't explain how relieved I was I just had to give her the biggest hug. Then I noticed her leg she has two nasty wounds, one of them a chunk of her fur has been ripped off and the one below looks more like a cut.

The man of the two dogs came running up to me apologising and I think he really meant it. What had happened was the wind had blown their gate down and they let the dogs out without realising. The man explained that when the two of them are together this is what they do to other dogs!! He kept on apologising and offered to drive me or walk me home. He has given me his phone number and said he will pay the vet bills and to let him know how she is doing.

I phoned my dad right away to come and pick us up as we were still a bit away from home, I think as I was on the phone it hit me what could have happened as I could hardly talk. The minute we got in I phoned the vets and got an appointment strait away. It wasn't until we were in the car I noticed that one of her back toenails was bleeding.

I am so upset as we have had to leave her at the vets to go under an anaesthetic to get stitched :( the vet said its with her running on the concrete that her nail has went right down to the quick. She looked so sad having to be left. We've to phone back at 5:30. I think im still in shock as I feel all shaken in side and a bit sick. My poor wee girl was shaking and panted the whole way in the car to the vets, im just counting down the time until we have to pick her up. I feel so bad as it was me who was with her but there was nothing I could have done as they just came running from no where and it wasn't her fault she was happily walking along on her lead. Its so sad as she is always such a loving and gentle girl and never fights back.

Sorry for the long ramble I just had to get all that out of my system.

Oh Sarah ,what a shock this must have been ,i hope Penny is ok ,sending gentle hugs for her and big hugs to you :huggles: :huggles: :huggles:

I'm very sorry to hear what has happened to Penny. I hope that you hear from the vets soon and that Penny will be as right as rain.

What a traumatic experience for you and Penny,it really feel for you.Just think positive,at least Penny will be home with you tonight.I am sure you will both take a while to get over this experience.I was at the recieving end of a similar thing 3 years ago,and it took me a long while to get my confidence back when taking my dogs a walk.I think the chap whos dogs they are, should get better security for his gate, although he is obviously, very sorry. My case went to court, and the dog had a control order placed on it,i will never forget what happened, and i know you will be very shook up.

Thinking about you.

Oh you poor thing, and poor Penny. So sorry to hear of this horrid experience. It's one we all dread happening, and enough to give you nightmares. So glad it didn't turn out as horrid as it could have done, and I hope Penny is soon back in your arms, and safe with you. Lots of luck for a speedy recovery :luck: :luck: :luck:

What a horriable experiance for you both , I,m sure Penny will be fine . At least the owner of the other dogs has not shunned responsibility

I am so sorry that this has happened to you and your beautiful girl. You're not the first and, unfortunately, you wont be the last. At least the dog owner accepted responsibility etc but it doesn't get over the fact that he's keeping two dangerous dogs that will, when the opportunity arises, do the same thing to another unfortunate dog. I don't care how nice he was, for this reason alone, I would contact the police. I hope Penny (and you) recover quickly from this horrible ordeal.

How awful , poor Penny and poor you :huggles: :huggles:

omg sarah so sorry this as happened to you and poor penny :( hope shes ok and her wounds heal fast .

Hope you both can put this ordeal behind you both xxx

Poor little darling. I am so pleased that the damage was not too bad.

What on earth made these dogs attack her?....were they staffs by any chance? Although the owners attitude was not that of the present day Staff. owners!

She will soon be on the mend.

Thank you all for the kind wishes im still in shock over the whole thing and sitting anxiously watching the clock to reach 5:30. I seriously think the owners need to get their fence sorted as this could easily happen again. One of the dogs which didn't do so much attacking looked like a miniature pincher sort and the one that attacked looked like some kind of jack russell cross was wirey and a bit taller and broader. There was absolutely no reason why they attacked as Penny was on a lead walking by my side they just ran across the road and without even sniffing her just grabbed onto her back thigh and shook it like a tug toy. Only half an hour until we phone now, will let you all know how she got on :huggles:

sending you and penny lots of hugs xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

How dreadful, it must have been like living through a nightmare. Big hugs to both of you :huggles: :huggles: :huggles: . I find rescue remedy can be helpful for getting over traumas like that (for you and her), or failing that a large gin.

so sorry sarah,

keep strong for her :huggles:

and make sure the guy pays for the vet, or get down the police station and report him, blown down fence or not if thats what those 2 dogs do when their together, they should be kept well apart!!

give penny a big (Gentle) hug from us. xx

:huggles: :huggles:

So sorry to hear this Sarah. :( Hope you get good news when you ring the vets and that she'll soon be back home with you for lots of cuddles. :huggles: Penny's gorgeous  and I love looking at all your photos of her out and about.

Oh Sarah, what a terrible experience for you both ... and I always think that Penny must be one of the gentlest girls on K9. I hope she recovers quickly from her wounds and you both get over the shock of what's happened :huggles:

Oh poor Penny and you  hope Penny makes a speedy recovery, big hugs to you both

Take the guys money for the vet fee and report him to the police ,also get yourself a pepperspray .

How awful for you and Penny :( So glad she never got hit by a car :huggles: Hope she is ok when you collect her from the vet :luck: :luck: :luck: Hugs to you both :huggles:

Thank God that Penny came back to you and she wasn't hurt on the road.

It is the most awful thing to happen and I'm sending lots of hugs and kisses for Penny :huggles: :huggles: :huggles: :* :* :* :*

At least the other owner was decent enough to apologise and offer to pay the bill, but I know it still doesn't make it right :(
