Sorry to hear that Sonny is poorly :( You must be so worried :huggles:

I hope he's soon safely home with you again :luck: :luck: :luck:

Get well really soon Sunny :huggles: :huggles: :luck:

Yes - whats the latest - hope he is on the mend and its not too serious :luck:

hope hes better soon :luck: :luck: :luck: :)

the vet let us bring Sunny home yesterday cos they couldn't do anymore until the cushings results come in, so they said that we can leave him getting supportive care there or bring him back - I almost ran the 10 miles to collect him!!!

by the time I got down there the results had been sent back - when he was first put on his medication for cushings, his dose was 60mg once a day, when he was tested a few weeks later it was too high, so was reduced the 30mg a day

the test shows that dose is too high too, which is why he has no energy and is refusing to eat, but the 30 mg is the lowest the capsules comes in so they've advised us to give him half the powder from inside the capsule a day

I did that this morning, mixed it in a tea spoon of special diet food and slowly syringed (sp?) it in his mouth then gave him his anti biotics and liver tablet - he threw up half hour later

he's also got aching legs, I think he was just too full of fluid from being on a drip for a couple of days and not moving much, he's feet are quite puffy

he is still not eating and I am worried sick - if the lowest dose it too high it stops him eating, if he doesn't take it he'll get liver damage - doesn't look like a winner either way :(

if we take him off the medication he'll hopefully start eating again, but what that means is he'll just to get really ill at a later date

so I am now sitting here looking at a dog that doesn't want to move, won't eat, will drink a tiny bit and only wants attention when he wants me to massage his legs

and the bill so far, from the first visit saturday lunch time? £930 - any doubts I had about whether we should have dog insurance have now been swept away!

oh yeah, I'm crying quite a bit too

oh Doris, i'm so sorry to hear that the news is still not good. you must be worried sick

:huggles: sending big hugs your way

Sorry to hear that - let's hope you can get his condition stabilised soon :luck: I know how difficult balancing medications can be :( Sounds like he is getting the very best of care from you and the vets

Don't know, but I wonder if a bath/poultice of epsom salt solution help with the swelling feet? It's what our vet always recommends for any swelling or inflammation. I used to do this when i had facial oedema, it seemed to work.

Very sorry to hear that news Doris - had hoped he would have improved over the past two or three days.

Oh gosh Doris, I am so very sorry. There is nothing worse than a poorly whippet, especially when you feel so useless because there is nothing you can do.

I am keeping my fingers crossed in the hope that he soon turns the corner and starts to pick up. Don't be too harsh on yourself, you have done all that you can to help him and I am sure he really appreciates being in his own home as opposed to the vets.

Hugs to you all. :luck:

With regards to his meds can they at least stop for a few days till he is feeling better in himself as it seems with you being a vigilant owner this has bn caught at the very first stage so would it help or hinder to give him a few days grace.

My vets wont prescribe meds for cushings disease they feel its a waste of money (not sure of all the reasoning behind this) as my mates dog was diagonsed with it also at a earlish stage he lived for another 4 years after it was diagonosed and he was about 10 ish when he had had enough, from what my mate told me blackie would not have lived any longer or any diferently if he had the meds.

Sorry edited to say hope he gets back on his feet soon :huggles: :luck:

Well, my ghast is flabbered that a Vet should refuse treatment, are you sure that that is the case and not your mate refusing treatment??? All I can think is that your mate's dog was only mildly affected because Cushings can be devastating.

Medication for Cushings disease is very expensive but when a dog responds, as my Frankie has, the result is amazing. He was diagnosed in March 2005, he was rapidly losing condition, had massive hair loss and his neurological decline was significant, he would have been off his legs and dead by now if I had not opted to give Vetoryl, which I buy on prescription and works out at £1.08 per 60mg capsule, of which he has one daily. Of course I could do without the expense but Frankie owes me nothing and the pleasure that he has given me over the years is huge in comparison to the cost I bear now so I could NOT deny him that chance to lead as healthy a life as he possibly could. Apart from being a bit wobbly sometimes from muscle weakness you would not know there is anything wrong with him now.

I am so sorry Doris that Sunny has not responded to the medication. What about a 30mg capsule every other day, as it is a 'build-up' effect drug??? Heartbreaking for you. :huggles: to Sunny, hope you get him sorted quickly.

So sorry to hear that things are not looking better for Sunny at the moment :(

Thinking of you lots and sending lots of luck :luck:

Loads of :huggles: :huggles: :huggles: to you and Sunny , hope he starts to get better soon.
