We let Alfie go this morning, he was 14+ and his heart just couldn't take anymore.
He was perfect in everyway from the day we rescued him as a young adult.
He was great with kids adults and other dogs, eveybody loved him, he was every other dogs hero and Joes and mine...
He welcomed the mad whippet with open paws when she arrived and taught her how to behave, and babysat her so she was never lonely, shame he taught her how to steal too...but being a whippet I guess thats congenital!!
She reversed the roles in later months and took care of him when we were out, bringing him back to me when he lost me in the field and generally leading him around with the occasional shoulder barge to point him in the right direction.
A sad day in the meddling houseold
