i have just the one whippet, and she is fine, she gets all the attention to herself and is very happy, people tell me its not fair to just have one, but plenty of people have just one whippet/dog, she is fine, gets plenty of love/walks/playtime, and to be honest i dont to upset the household by getting another one

she has her little whippet friends to play with every week and my mum and sister both have dogs

Now , why would anyone want TWO ( or more ) whippets

Whippets just love other whippet friends to snuggle up to and play with  :huggles: . Even out walking or in the car they can recognise fellow whippets and want to play .

Trust me , you wont regret it

I count 10

You have 10!!! (w00t)

I think the 'fair' (or not) bit comes into it hely, depending on the rest of your lifestyle.

For me, working full time, one dog on his own would be unfair.

But a dog, with his/her people for most of the day, getting cuddles and walks and playtime should be a happy little hound indeed! :huggles:

We had Dolly for a year before we got Mojo and we took Dolly along to see the pups and Mojo chose her by going and laying down next to her. When i got him home I made sure that Dolly always got attention first so she still felt like top dog. Although they have there own cages when i am out of the house when i am at home they love sleeping together and are really a close knit pack!!

Heres a pic of my two relaxing.

I would say go for it, they really do love other whippets and Mojo barks at other dogs but other whippets he doesnt make a sound!!

Jax I always love that photo of all your whippets..  they certainly fill that sofa just perfectly... :huggles:

Fiona...thats a lovely pic of Mojo and Dolly... :huggles:

i quite agree with you  , but i get a bit annoyed when people say im mean cos i only have one............if i thought she would have been unhappy here on her own i would never have got her  :huggles:

We only have the one whippet, one half of me would like another but the other half is happy with having the one special girl, but it would be up to my parents. She is very happy, there is always someone around, so she is never lonely in the house. She is over 4 now and never looks like she needs another whippet for company, shes very happy. She gets lots of walks and I do take her to the park so she can play with other dogs which she loves to do. Since she has lived here since 8 weeks on her own I don't know how she would feel about another dog. Different situations suit different people. Most people I hear with whippets do seem to have more than one though.

I havn't read all the posts but thats why Whippets are so versitile, if you only want one they are happy or if you want lots they are also happy. I have 7, each one has its own character. :D

:luck: with whatever you decide, 1,2 or more.

I agree :)) I have 8 and they do have their lown ittle characters, I love the way they all heap on each other infront of the fire. I can't imagine life with only a couple now!

Good luck with whatever you decide.

it sounds to me the advice you got was from people who treat their dogs way over the top.they probaley rule the house and are hand warmers ( small dogs with on use).we are getting our sixth soon so its not should i get a second more of when is enough ,enough.as evreybody has said they get on after the settling period is over then your ready for your third etc etc. :luck: theres some good pups out there at the moment (w00t)

We got three pups all around same time :teehee: and it was work! However they are lots and lots of fun too. They get on most of time :- " just like children really.

We thought good and hard and made the decision, the right ones for us and our dogs.

You sound as though you have got your dogs best intention at heart and waited til he was 18 months, just as u promised yourself!

Anyway I could go on....

A picture can say a thousand words

I got Ella when Jinny was 6 months old and although she loves playing with Ella it hasn't changed her relationship with me. I do make sure that I have time with Jinny on her own every day so that she doesn't feel pushed away :)

They have formed their own special bond and Jinny is still the boss so all is well
