poor little mite...i hope he settles now..maybe its going to take him time to adjust...that is a big bandage afterall

its so exhausting when you have a pet recovering from a big op...its a 24 hrs job

at least you have him home and im sure he'l soon settle knowing that he'l be getting all the love and care

how long does he have to have the bandage on...

Yip asleep at last!! , we are all shattered
Gosh bless him, what an aweful time of it youve all had... I do hope hes on the road to recovery now... :luck: :luck:

The bandage is on for about 8 weeks may be longer!, twelve weeks before anything slightly normal. At the moment he is still asleep so i hope we will all get a good nights sleep. Thanks for all the well wish's and advice, will keep u informed x

Oh poor Smartie, and poor you too!! It is so awful to see them distressed and feel so helpless! I don't know what to say really, I would have thought that the pain relief and sedative should have been more effective. Sorry, I'm no help at all!

Contacted the vet who could hear him, he thought that all the pain relief should have helped but nothing was working, so he spoke to the surgeon who said he must go back in to the vet hospital and go on a drip and extra pain relief then assess, could be the metal work pressing against a nerve in his leg, just not enough pain relief or reaction to drugs, so he is in till who know when my poor little man  not even cuddles from us was helping, nothing was and we were all becoming more and more distressed x

Oh Im so sorry, its so worrying when you cant help them...

Im so glad the vet is taking him back, hope they get to the root of the problem...poor lad ...hope you have him back home soon too,... :luck: :luck:

Keep your spirits up, Im sure he is in good hands.

How upsetting for you, it's awful to see them in distress and to feel completely helpless.

Really hope the vet can do something quickly to get him more comfortable :luck:

So sorry to hear this. Something is not right if he is still in so much pain with all that medication. You must feel distraught and helpless. Please keep us posted and :luck: :luck: :luck:

:luck: :luck: To Smartie, lets hope the vets can make him more comfortable. It sounds like he is in the best place for the moment. :huggles:

I will keep you all informed, at the moment we are exhusted and I am very emotional, hope my little lad is home soon

You must feel so helpless right now but Smartie really is in the best place. He needs people with experience to find out why he is not settling and make him feel more comfortable. What a distressing time for you all. It's horrible to have your pet in pain and not be able to help them. It's stressful enough having him go in for surgery without all the complications you are having.

Hopefully the nexy 24hrs. will find him feeling much better and if something from his surgery needs addressing then he is right there where the experience and equipment is. For now though, just try and catch up on some rest as you must feel completely drained. Tomorrow should look more positive as by then they should have had time to make some kind of diagnosis or at least have an action plan to discuss with you.

Don't be afraid to call them whenever you need an update on how he is, - it's no different to having a relative in hospital! Maybe tomorrow you could drop in one of his favourite toys to keep him company or an item of clothing to put in with him and make him feel a little more 'at home'?

The last few days must have felt like a roller coaster for you. Remember there are many people on here to share your thoughts with who understand something of what you are going through, so don't feel alone. Do hope tomorrow brings better news. In the meantime, just remember that you have done everything you can for now and do let us know how he gets on. Thinking of you. :luck: :luck: :luck:

I'm sorry to read about Smartie being in such pain. It must be so stressful for you all. Fingers crossed things start to improve for you. :luck:

My heart goes out to you :huggles: There is nothing worse than not being able to help your little boy when you know how much pain he must be feeling :(

I do hope that the surgeon is able to correct whatever is causing this terrible situation for poor Smartie and I am thinking of you all and keeping everything crossed for a positive outcome, bless him  xxx

just had a call off the vet and Smartie seems a little bit more comfortable so i am now off for a good sleep, vet ringing us tomorrow lunch time thanks for all ur concern it has been a great help and support x

Hope you sleep a little better tonight knowing that Smartie is more comfortable, it is so hard being separated from them but he clearly needed more specialised care to alleviate his discomfort, after all, if they are not comfortable at home, being loved and in familiar surroundings then it is a sure sign that they are in some sort of pain. :huggles:

Know how you fell,,had 2 with bad breaks,,its hard to see your dog in pain,,we were lucky,,well with 1 of the dogs,,he made a full recovery,,yes he was in some pain,,but meds helped him,,other lad lost his leg,,after months of trying to save it,,best thing ever for him,,a few days after the op,,he was bouncing about on 3 legs,,and he could still run a bit too. Im sure the vets will find out why he's so sore,,and fix it. There are a lot of topics on here about broken bones or bad injurys,,one is our lad Colt and Micks pup in the non ped racing section,,he was a puppy too,,but running now,,Smash is the user name,,,you might find some hope or just know what the owners went through,,,the very same as you. Smartie is is the best place,,he will be home soon,,get some sleep,,I remember breaking down as Colt would not stand still for a bag to be put over his bandage,,think it was lack of sleep and worrie too,,,I was scared he would get hurt again,,he was made of tough stuff,,you lad will be the same,,,there are people out there who have been in the same place as you,,,all do end in a good way,,dogs do recover, might take weeks or months,,but there is light at the end,,take care,,look after yourself,,sleep when you can,,the dog will be fine in the end :luck: :luck: xx

Oh bless poor Smartie, I hope things are better for him today and for you for a nights sleep.

Well Smartie is more settled but will not eat, they are having a kennel round tomorrow and will ring me to say whats happening we are all missing him including his brother Peter, but he is in the right place , night night little fella hope to fetch u soon x
