Garry, I'm sure everyone who can make the date will be there  , and prehaps those that cannot but are members of an affiliated club can be sent minutes of the meeting, maybe taken by WCRA and posted to club secretaries( so that we all "sing from the same song sheet"). As for interest in the topic....I think -refreshing- may be an inappropriate word  , one thing I think can be said is no one wants to lose our beloved sport :( , I know we would rather have been on Morton-in -Marsh cricket ground racing the Whippets on a lovely Bank Hols weekend 8) .

well said Lesley...i will be one who will not be at the meeting due to having to bring all my dogs and Elisha, its not practical :( ,this does not mean i dont care about the sport i have grown to love...

i however know that many reps from my club will be present, all with the same feelings as me, so i feel my thoughts on this matter will be well represented

Call me an optimist but I'm hoping that some good may come out of this meeting. Lets wait and see.
It’s refreshing to see there seems to be a lot of interest in this topic.

I hope all these people are interested enough in the future of racing to turn up on Sunday.

I’m sure anyone its important to, and really cares and will be there.
Im sorry Gary but I am offended by your post we have loved whippet racing for 30yrs and it is very important to us.

and we care about what happens to our sport .

we have thought long and hard about attending this meeting but we are not allowed to speak only listen which I know my husband would not be able to do .

we have every faith in our reps to act in the best interest of our sport and its members .

we have made our feelings very clear on this subject for the last year we can only hope the reps get their questions answered .

I think all those who can be there, will be there Garry - except for the only people who ever travel from Scotland to race, as they are prohibited from doing so as they are not committee members of their club. I'm not sure what was to be gained by putting restrictions on who could be club reps, but the fact that the Scottish racers wanted to be there to have their questions answered, are unable to has not helped the situation. Instead someone who is a committee member from their club will be attending. This person knows very little of the circumstances surrounding this meeting, and the club would have been better represented by someone who at least is an open racer.

I imagine there are plenty of others who would be there if they could speak.- in these days of the credit crunch etc, most people pick and chose which races to attend, according to what their wallets will stretch to, and if you have representatives from your club attending, there really isn't much point in anyone else attending - that said of course, there are those of us who want to hear it first hand. I only hope something will be sorted out on the day, and it doesn't end up in more meetings and talks. This sorry situation has been going on for well over a year, and its a shame that nothing was done before the passports were applied for - as was asked of the Registrar when these dogs were 6 months old.

I do have a good feeling about this meeting - if the real evidence is presented, there will be no doubts over which decision is the right one.

i think if we are passionate about the sport then we need to to be prepared to put our selves out and attend the meeting and be united about it even though we cant say anything about it while we are there, if we want a stop put to it before it all goes ahead then i think we need to do our part and not leave it to others to sort out for us, eventually as these dogs are bred from they will be in all weight groups not just the heavy weight groups, we all love the racing but sometimes we have to stand up and be counted if people are passionate about the racing and want the sport to remain as it is then why support the clubs with super stars, we all want to go to the opens and race but sometimes you have to stand up for your own beliefs.

Excellent post  We along with many others will not support any clubs who haven't enforced a ban, and if by banning them it means we don't affiliate next year then so be it. We only have small dogs, but once this is in the pedigree whippet, we have lost the breed for good :(

Looking forward to Sunday ... Its about time you ALL took on board the truth .. lets hope you can ALL read and understand the TRUTH ..... but lets see hey !!!! ....

Actually, no, we're not. The governing body are the ones being made a laughing stock, its just that they don't listen to the very people who belong to the clubs who pay their affiliation each year. They have forgotten that they owe it to the clubs to sort this out. It seems that affiliated clubs go out of the window when certain people and their friends in high places speak

yes Im afraid sometimes its not what you know its who you know :-

Well, I don't suppose I'm the first one home, but have to report that although we are disappointed that this sorry affair has not been brought to a conclusion, we are encouraged that tha WCRA do want to listen to us, and by an overwhelming majority, it was voted that the dogs passports should be suspended pending further investigations. It was also voted on by clubs, and the vote was 11 clubs voting for suspension, and only 2 who voted to let them run.

I have to commend Mark Etheridge for his skills in chairing the meeting. He opened by saying he wasn't a strong Chairman, but would do his best to keep things in order - and he did! It was fair to say that the meeting went well for pedigree racing. The only downside is that the WCRA feel that any ban they make on these dogs would be overturned by the Whippet Club, and that is why they feel their hands have been tied. That said, then what is the point of the WCRA committee if the Whippet Club don't trust their opinions?

I hope that the Whippet Club representatives took on board the feeling of the racers, and I hope they may have been swayed by the strength of feeling - and the fact that we are not just a bunch of nasty people who want some fast dogs banned. The fact is these dogs were queried and an investigation was asked for when they were 6 months old - no one knew how fast they would be then!! The WCRA know now in hindsight that it was a mistake not to investigate sooner, but they decided to wait until passports had been applied for.

All in all, it wasn't a bad day - although exhausting!! The usual Gloucester suspects retired to the pub afterwards for a lovely meal, and we picked over the events of the day :D All present felt that Mark Etheridge was a hero, and the day was not wasted (as had been previously expected).

We have to await the outcome of the WCRA meeting on 6th June to see if we can get back to racing our pedigrees in the sport we all love so much, and are so passionate about.

For those wondering - the 3rd Championships will go ahead, and the WCRA are making plans to see if they can add another Championship to replace the one missed today.

Hope the wcra listen to you guys
I think they did.

Let's hope we can resolve this situation very soon for every-one's sake. I certainly felt extremely disappointed to have missed the opportunity of a fabulous week-end away at our Champs in this wonderful weather. It seemed such a shame to sit indoors, I hope the attendance proved that there is a great deal of passion in the sport and it's future. At least we had a great meal with friends in a lovely location after the business was over.
