Caught on camera: Harpooned mother whale and her calf dragged to their death by Japanese whalers

These heartbreaking photos of a mother whale and her calf being dragged to their death by Japanese whalers have been released by the Australian government and greeted with fury by the public.

The photos - showing the adult minke whale and her calf being towed up the rear ramp of a Japanese factory processing ship in Antarctica - prompted headlines including "They call it science", and drew accusations from Tokyo that Australia was trying to fan a diplomatic confrontation

dunno what so called research they can do into this.here is a whale.lets chase it and kill it.end of research.

its all about the yen isnt it?the japanese like whale meat.so they can go kill as many whales as they like until the last one is left in the oceans.and they wont be happy till theyve killed that one too.these beautiful creatures should be treasured and protected not slaughtered and put on a plate

Such beautiful, sensitive, intelligent creatures that live in close knit family groups. Yes, you have to hunt to feed, but there is a limit, and they've hugely overstepped the mark. Why do they think they have the right....a mother and baby...it makes me want to weep!!
