So in actual fact Katie what you are saying that the complete food looks bland, mmmm, how can i word this without upsetting many complete food users, if you think the food looks uninviting, what does your puppies look upon it, ahhh, but perhaps they regurlarly get complete so know nothing else, my dish is included in this post, i invite you to put down a bowl of complete, and my recipe, i do appreciate however you have 2 dogs to feed, and a family to look after, so therefore a complete may suit you, but you only get out what you put in

yes keith your right and if you had read my post properly :- " you would see that i would love to feed them on the barf but i do not have the means to do so at this time. also they have been feed wagg by their breeder and i was under the impresion that if you wanted to change what a pup or dog was eating you ahould do it gradually so not to upset there tummies, well they have only been with us for 3weeks and they seem to be doing well on it 1kg weight gain in 2 week thats a 3rd their body weight (w00t) so i wasnt in any rush to try anything else.

but yes complete food is bland and i wouldnt like to be stuck eating the same thing day in day out.

all my four and the cats when they can steal it from under the dogs noses, eat dried complete from The Natural Dog Food Company - they also have fish and veggies a couple of times a week and eat fruit when i do (most days)

it is without doubt the best food i have tried and with fussy Talulla we have tried a great deal!!

shiny coats, bags of energy, and never a scrap of food left in the bowls - cannot ask for more than that x

i have been so impressed with the food that i have become the agent for the North of Scotland - so if anyone up here would like some samples sent ....... :- "

Can someone explain the difference between barf and raw please?

Also can someone tell me what to buy/ask for in the meaty bones front please?

We are on Royal Canin at moment. Dogs like it but im not really convinced by any of the stuff that goes into complete food. Colours and derivertives= a lot of shite

Its hard to find the time to hand make meals everyday but one must try

look on The Natural Dog Food website - no shite in their food at all - no hidden salt or chemicals as there are in James Wellbeloved and other so called premium foods. :thumbsup:

Mine have raw meat with veg, rice or pasta, a top quality mixer, fruit, and raw bones as often as i can get some!

They look a million dollars on it, gleaming coats, fit as fleas, full of vitality, great teeth and perfect stools!!!!

Used to feed top brands of complete but they didn't tuck into it at all and they didn't look anywhere as good condition wise so it was a waste of money. I'd never feed anything else now, they love it!

Arden Grange Lamb and rice - Pippa's skin condition has gone and they both look great on it. Maybe need to reduce the amount as they have put weight on.

Would love to feed BARF but right now circumstances wont allow.

I give mine mince and brown rice for brekky, James Welbeloved and a bit of mince for the other meals and scrambled egg for supper which they love more than the meat believe it or not! They also get veggies and a bit of fruit.

We currently have George on Arden Grange prestige as it was recommended for fussy eaters - he's normally great with it but we do occasionally add mince or tripe if he's not in the mood. However, we are thinking of changing him to ? not sure yet. We have noticed he has flaky skin - a few doses of sardines sorts this but that means the complete food isn't complete - and it's fairly expensive. Any suggestions welcome

My gang have raw tripe,beef,veggies & a wee bit of laughing dog natural biscuit as their main diet,& then have different extras each day such as green ark cereal & herb mix,sardines, yoghurt,honey,fruit.supplements consist of seaweed or keepers mix,wheatgerm oil & brewers yeast.

Oh & theres always marrow bones on the go :thumbsup:

I can't imagine what it must be like for dogs that have to face a dish of pellets & nothing else every day.........boring & tasteless

If you go into your local butcher and ask him if he has any knuckle bones or large rib bones...lamb or beef usually. some butchers will give them away others may charge a small fee for them. Also I buy a lamb rib section, sometimes from a supermarket and split them up into sections. I also buy frozen lamb chops for them and put them in the freezer.

Last night my lads had minced beef....with blended veggies...turnip carrots..green beans and banana...and a little mixer.

I dont feed large meaty bones every day....but chicken wings almost every day..after all these are still bones. :thumbsup:

BARF means Bones and Raw Food

Raw is just raw...

If anyone here is a member of the Whippet 'Forum there is a great tutorial on there at the moment on preparing your dogs food. :thumbsup:

My are fed on raw tripe/beef which cost me just over £11.00 for a box of 40,1lb in weight for each pack,works out about 39p per 1lb pack,which is quite good.They also get vegetables etc left over from our roast and sardines two or three times a week.Also sometimes pasta and rice

my whippets are back on tinned food and mixer...they had this originally and i was told complete dry was better....they did well on the dry food until Badger suffered bloat two months ago which was very bad and very scarey.

Badger will never have dry food again ( and yes i did pre soak before feeding and i didn't exercise him near to mealtime and he was fed with food bowl raised etc).

since he and Woody are both whippets,they are both on the tinned stuff (butchers supreme choice)with a small amount of wholemeal mixer added.

my boxer bitch has dry food (james wellbeloved)but since she is small and not very deep chested seems ok on it.

my beagle has dry food but it is hepatic food(hills prescription diet) for his liver disease so he has no choice.

my whippetX is fed chappie all the time now as he has immune problems and suffers severe intestinal; problems with lots of bleeding after a few weeks on any other food, can't even have treats bless him.

I work for Arden Grange but I'm not going to plug it on here- each to their own! :- "

But just a suggestion- if your boy has dry skin on the Prestige but it improves if you add fish, perhaps you could try the Salmon and Rice? It is a bit cheaper than the Prestige and is fantastic for skin and coat, with the extra omega 6 and 3 oils from the salmon.
