Thanks for the update Barbara, I was just thinking about how Woody was doing yesterday. I am really glad he has remained cheerful, aren't whippets resilient little dogs!

:luck: :luck: thanks for the update barbara  its just not the same at the track without you

hope to see you all really soon :huggles:

Great news Barbara - keep up the good work - I'm sure Woody will be right as rain in no time.

It's been very quiet on the board :- " :teehee:

Phew, that's a HUGE relief. Very pleased to have some good news about Woody. At least you can see the skin now so one less thing to worry about; having to make sure he doesnt use the leg is a full time job I imagine.

:luck: for a full recovery. :huggles: to Woody.

Thanks all. Himself is currently snoozing in the porta mag box being blasted on full.

He's starting to get the flexibility back in his foot and I noticed last night that when he tries to put the foot to the ground it is now going down very slightly pad side down rather than knuckle side. He uses it for balance when turning or trying to lie down. It must hurt 'cause he doesn't keep it down for long. So he's being sensible. As long as we don't get a 'rush of blood to the head' moment we should be okay.

We really miss seeing our racing friends. :huggles: It seems like ages since we've been racing and we won't be able to go to the last few opens because of Woody, so it'll be next year before we meet up with some of you again. Jest (Alchemist) is looking 'nicely' covered :- " though I'm sure that he'd like to be even fatter (w00t) I'm hoping that Logie (pup) won't have forgotten how to run down a track by the time he starts up again.

Anyway happy and safe racing to you all and we'll see you next year.

(w00t) Heathers 'Harry' WON the racing today!!!!

:) so glad woody doing well your both doing a fab job

A Woody update. We've been back to the vets this morning.

Would you like to see Woody walking I asked Sandra. He's not supposed to be able to walk yet she replied, but go on then, I don't know if I can look. Woody walks up and down. He's almost fully weight bearing on it and he's moving it properly she says.

So he's put on the table and she examines him. Woody is very stressed and worried because he has only been in pain and been hurt there. His little leg shakes after he was made to stand on it.

Sandra gets the treats out and Woody has lots of them as a reward. Hmm he thinks this isn't so bad and starts to relax. So he has a little stretch. OMG that is scarey Sandra says look how much pressure he's putting on that shoulder. Having had a stretch Woody decides to lie down. Both front legs fully extended both feet neatly next to each other toe nails lined up. I don't know if I can watch much more of this says Sandra he really shouldn't be able to do this yet. He's putting so much pressure on that bone.

I'm thinking no point in saying that tell Woody not us. We've got used to the little daily improvements. The demands for toys to play with. The flinging off of his sock so that he can put the leg to the ground and walk or even trot (w00t) . The being dragged to that moments favoured peeing or pooing spot in the garden. The jumping up on the settee if we human slaves aren't quick enough with the picking him up.

We go back in 2 weeks for an x-ray to make sure that everything really has healed and then he starts to swim. He's got to redevelop his shoulder and leg muscles which are very wasted so it's going to take time. But it's like having lots of small miracles everyday at the moment as he does new things everyday and is becoming more and more Woody like. Before the accident he was so playful and lively. He would stir up the others, play with toys to get them to move off the settee so he could have their places, get the younger ones to charge up and down from the bedroom to the sitting room being rowdy and play fighting in whatever room they ended up in. The way things are progressing I believe that he will be doing all this once more.

Jest also went in to see Sandra. His shoulder (what another shoulder problem (w00t) ) hasn't improved at all since July 17th. If he's rested after a few days then he stops being lame but the moment that he is walked he's lame again. This time I'd taken him out yesterday so that she could see what he's like after exercise rather than take in a rested dog who isn't going to show much sign of pain. It was the worst that she'd seen him. He's going back for an x-ray on it. Hopefully next week but if that can't happen then in 2 weeks time. Hopefully the x-ray will confirm what we think is the problem (chip of cartiledge in the shoulder joint) and it can be sorted out rapidly.

With any luck we'll be back racing Jest (Alchemist) at the first opens next year.

Lovely to hear hes doing so well :huggles: good luck with the x rays Woody and Jest

Good on Woods :huggles: ....... I hope Pesty is easily sorted out as well :*

Well if poor Sandra ha (w00t) s a head of grey hair when we see her next we'll know it's Woody to blame.

Fantastic news :D - Woody obviously has no idea what a big op he's been through and the fact he's a bit of a pioneer and a celebrity.

:luck: to Woody and Jest.

What a lot of stress Barbara! I am glad you are coping so well, I am not sure I would have the strength to get through this tough time. Pets are a worry, worse than kids, they tell you how they are feeling, dogs don't do that

Woody sounds like he will ping back, and I am sure Jest is young and fit and will be back on track next season.

Good luck to both with rapid recoveries

I feel a lot less stressed now that Sandra has seen what Jest is like once he's been exercised. I'd rest him up so his shoulder was almost okay when she saw him so she'd say you can start walking him and he'd go lame and the more that we walked him (30 mins max) the lamer he'd go. So I'd be phoning her up saying he's going lame because of the exercise I think that he should rest up. Sandra would say rest him. She'd then see him again and he'd appear damn near fit. This time I walked him before seeing her and so she got to see him after exercise. The fact that he went lame in July and had got no better rather did my head in as some folks who spoke to me on the phone this last week can testify. :- " :)

Woody is just plain scarey at times. It's a buzz that he feels that he can do so much but also a worry as we are still a week and a half off the 6 weeks. Just goes to prove what a bloody vet Sandra is that there was so little damage to the leg. Restraining a whippet who thinks that he's back to normal and that the humans have gone plainly mad is a bit stressful at times. :) For him as well as us I think.

Woods was having a really good time tonight tormenting Whizz, Mouse and Logie with a new toy. He was having a gentle ragging session with me over it and barking at the other dogs and squeaking it at them just to wind them up. No change there then. :D

 Only just seen the update on Woody,Barbara. What a great improvement for him.Hope he goes from strenght to strenght now.Sandra must be really proud of herself (though she never shows it)And you must feel good too after all the hard work keeping him from doing all whippie things !!

:luck: :luck: with the x rays hope all shows up well.

:luck: :luck: :luck: with Jest and his x rays too!! :luck: Pat,Sidney & George xx

Great to hear Woody is sooooooo much better. :D

Hope the X-ray at least helps get to the bottom of whatever is up with Jest. :luck:

So pleased to hear Woody is improving  and keeps going from strength to strength

Good :luck: :luck: :luck: :luck: with his xray :luck: :luck: :luck:

This morning Woody was okay going into his cage but when I persuaded him to leave it several hours later he couldn't put his foot to the ground and he isn't the same dog at all today. He is very quiet and v lame.

He is being x-rayed tomorrow morning. We are in bits as the shoulder doesn't look 'right' to us. We think that it might have redislocated. If it has we don't know why as yesterday he was fine. I've been home with him all day and he hasn't cried out or anything and if there is any damage then it has happened in the cage.
