Well at least it will give the rest of us a chance :D

Greetings to all lure coursers

I have spoken with our secretary this evening and she tells me that the uptake for this event which will establish the BEST whippet lure coursing dog in the country(not exceeding 21ins of course) is predictably high.

Can I please impress upon those wanting a chance to claim this crown to get your entry in as soon as you can. It is open to any whippet that satisfies the stated criteria. It will be a FULL 32 dog stake, with reserves of course.

Please contact Andrea on 01376 563592.

The standard is going to be high. There are some very useful dogs entered already but don't let that put you off.

Be in it to win it. Remember??

( PM ME IF YOU NEED MORE INFO _

Blimey, of course! I can see your ulterior motives to keeping me rotund. You wouldn't want to have wasted the £2.00 on the jeans when they are too big (w00t) 8) :- "

I shall keep the weightloss to a minimum then

If the stake is only for 32 dogs on a first come first served basis, how can this establish (with respect) the Best Whippet lure coursing dog in the country Chris ??? ........ I'm not trying to cause trouble, but its not like you've chosen the best to compete (though you do have some top class lure coursers entered for this comp).....as they are being entered by their owners instead of hand picking the cream of the crop ........The BSFA can (and does on many occasions) have over 40 Whippets entered for competition on the same day ......Surly to find the "BEST Whippet lure coursing dog in the country" , there ought to be qualifiers up and down the country for the best 32 dogs to meet later next year :) ......Just my humble opinion though ...... Have a great, fun and safe days lure coursing .....Its just too far for us and :luck: Hannah :D .....

Hello Hannah. This trophy event has been staged by our club for 5 or 6 years now I guess and yes it was established to achieve the best etc etc. It is an Open and by definition anyone meeting the criteria can enter. Should more than 32 dogs enter then the club would (presumably) re think the order of the event. The reality is that that scenario is unlikely to materialise. Quite simply, the event is advertised as what it is, anyone in the country that reads K9 and those that don't but hear of it from others can enter. If we are inundated ,then this embarassment of riches will be dealt with. ( The above is MY wording and may or may not be judged as definitive by our club committee of which, I am not a member. For further clarification please call Andrea Barr on 01376 563 592 )

We are now up to 20 dogs confirmed as entries . Many of our club members will no doubt wish to enter . As you will all know, first come etc etc. We have at this stage some multiple entries and should the take up be as predicted, then multiple entries will give way to singletons to give as many people as possible the chance to compete. GOOD LUCK EVERYONE :luck:

How on earth (sorrect me please if I am wrong) is it possible to hold an event that would EVER in a zillion years show anything, other than the best dog on THAT day, IN that coursing event?

Sorry, but as an example, I may have in my home a dog that I (and for arguments sake lets say all my mates) think is the VERY best coursing dog in the country. I enter it into a 32/64/128/256 dog stack (if that was possible). I win. Ye Haaaaa! I am over the moon. I then find out that in three weeks time, there is another event. I enter my dog. It rains. I lose. Or, the ground is hard with frost. I lose. Or, the slip is not perfect. I win. I lose. Or the dog she runs against trips and falls. I win. She trips and falls. I lose. ETC ETC ETC.

Far too many variables. The dog on the day is only ever the VERY BEST on that day, in those conditions, and that draw.

The best coursing lines in the country? The best working lines in the country? The best show lines in the country? The best racing lines in the country? Thats a different matter. But the BEST coursing dog in the country? Is it really possible to prove this?

Like real coursing, anything can happen, in the Waterloo Cup a a greyhound that had won everything in the season and had been nominated to run might have gone out on the first course, that is the unpredictability of the sport, sadly we are no longer able to sample the excitement of the event due to our bigoted friends .....

To prove the best dog in the country takes more than 1 meeting, and would have to be in a central location to allow anyone a chance of competing.

How many Scottish entrants have you?

There should be heats around the country to determine the best on the day but that could change due to injury or seasons.

Your competition will determine the best on that day at that location, but is hardly a fair representation of what the whole country has to offer at this time.
