Soooo glad to here Arnie is home ...... I bet it was a shock and distressing to see him for the first time after his operation but I'm sure he will improve daily now and it won't seem as bad.

Onwards and upwards now

Enjoy lots of cuddles ...... before he is bombing about again ;)

Im absolutely delighted for you, and so glad Arnie is doing so well. :luck: :luck: Loads of luck for a continued speedy recovery and a double hug for you :huggles: :huggles: for being so brave

Sarah and Arnie - so pleased for you both that you are back together again. Nothing can prepare you for the shock of seeing your precious boy after having that op, but you will get used to it as time goes on, and when the fur grows back it will look much better. Lots of love to you both xx

I'm so pleased he is home and doing well. It must be very hard seeing him struggling at the moment, but things will only get better from here, I'm sure :huggles:

Just a thought, but when you start taking him out could you use something like a ruffwear harness with a handle on the back to give him a bit of extra support if he needs it?

Ruffwear Harness

So pleased to hear Arnie is back at home with you

You will soon get used to the wound and it propably bothers you more than it bothers you. He will soon back bouncing around.

Hello my K9 friends...thank you all for your words of support and encouragement.

I slept downstairs with Arnie last night and after 5 minutes of trying to get myself comfortable on the couch I had a visitor. Arnie hopped up and snuggled next to me. It was a weird night of me just looking at him and trying to avoid touching him where it hurts!

He looks so much better today. Facially he looks more alive and his ears are up a lot more than before the op. So i strongly believe that he is now in less pain that he was pre op.

He doesn't seem to want to go outside, which I can understand because its icy and cold and he has no fur! When he went out this morning he worked out that if he leans on the fence he can still lift his leg! I was very impressed I have to say.

He is slowly making his way around the house and seems to be discovering what he can and can't do.

On the whole I think with time he will recover nicely and I have already seen an improvement from yesterday. For me, Im exhausted, frightened and feel a little in shock with it all. I was totally unprepared for how he would look and even though a couple of you had warned me about the bruising it seems shocking to look at. Every time I see the wound it makes my tummy flip over....But thats my issue and I have to get over it.

Feefee, I already bought a Ruffwear harness. Ordered it Tuesday and it came yesterday. Very impressed with it and when he is better I will try it on him. Definitely think it will give him more support and the handle will be great for helping him in and out of the car and down steps.

Thanks again to everyone who has read this and is continuing to support us. It is sooo appreciated, i cant tell ya how much.

Have a great day everyone.

x

Glad to hear Arnie is looking better already . He will improve so much more now that he is home :huggles:

Bit later tonight, due to a day at work with my manager

I'm so glad to hear that Arnie is perking up and is showing how ingenious he

can be

The wound will soon heal and you will become used to it, hun. The main thing

is that he is alive and well and you can look forward to plenty more time and fun

together :huggles:

It's brilliant how far you have come in such a short space of time and I'm very glad

that K9 could be of some help and comfort to you :)

so please Arnie is doing so well, they adapt better than we do im sure....

you have been so strong for him and im sure that has made the world of difference to his recovery

Hi Sarah

Arnie sound like he is coping well. It does take time, but he will adjust better than you will.

The sight of him (op site),,looks horrid,,yep we warned you, but unless it's your dog,,you dont realise just how the owner feels. The good thing is,,the hair will grow back very quicky and you soon forget the dog has only 3 legs as the dog is bouncing about,,100% feeling great.

When you look back in a year's time Sarah, you will remember him as he is just now, but think,,,he looks normal now,,well in your eyes he will be a 3 legged normal dog,,like our BJ was to us. I still remember that day BJ came home,,that will stay with me for life,,,But he was running about and chasing the other dogs 4 weeks later,,the worst thing was he could still beet the other lads lol.

Arnie sounds like he's very happy now. Sarah,,you will be happy very soon also

You guys are so great, do you know that? I just read your posts and it brought tears to my eyes. Thanks for saying I've been strong. I'm trying to so hard for him.

We had another night on the couch together and after an initial struggle to get settled he had a good night. I was woken up this morning with a big wet nose in my face!!! He had worked his way up to me and was doing his best to balance to say good morning.

He looks quite bright eyed today and less bloodshot. The swelling has gone down but the bruising seems to have worked its way down his tummy and is now around his back legs. The wound itself is looking a little better than yesterday. So slowly but surely he is recovering. Its nice to hear that in 4 weeks he will look better Susan. Thanks for that.

I am a little concerned that he doesn't want to go out. I can understand it because it is cold out and he is rather shaky when he tried to do 'his business'. i have been supporting him on the lead as best i can. Will be better when he is healed and i can get his harness on. I am considering taking him to a local park but a bit worried about him getting his wound dirty. ANy thoughts anyone, do you think it will be okay?

I'm exhausted again but about to have my second cup of coffee! Im not complaining. I have my boy home and I'm going to nurse him back to full health!

Thanks again for all the positive thoughts and comments. It really really helps!

hiya sarah glad things are getting better for you and arnie, get your self some vet rap or equirap same stuff adheres to itself without sticking, put some padding on first which is non sticking and the wrap the vet rap round his shoulders and neck similar way to a sling on a human and that will keep it nice and clean will also protectit if his does stumble, in a couple of weeks you would have forgotten your worries and have a happier bouncier lad back..

Good morning, Sarah! :huggles:

Nice to hear all is going well. I don't think you need worry too much about

Arnie not wanting to go out. It's only a week since his op and he will be

recovering both mentally and physically ......... betcha you wouldn't want

to go out that much either :teehee:

I promise I'm not being morbid in any way but it would be

interesting if we could see a picture of Arnie to give us an

idea of what you are witnessing yourself? It might also help

in giving advice for those of us who know how to manage this

type of wound effectively

Time is the great healer ............. relax and be patient, hun :)

Arnie will get there and you will have been his rock

I agree Sarah - I wouldn't worry about him not wanting to go out. If he was desperate to go out, then Debbie's idea of vetwrap and dressing around his wound would protect him, but as he isn't bothered, I'd just nurse him in the warm, and look forward to the day when he gets up and says "come on mum, we going out?"

I'd be quite happy to hibernate at the moment too :teehee: Sounds like he's doing just fine. Has he got nylon stitches or ones that dissolve? Wounds are normally left to heal for 10-14 days before stitches are removed, and amazingly healing takes place in that short time. I'd plan to take him out after this period, and then at least if he does topple over, he shouldn't do the wound too much harm  You're doing fantastic with him :huggles:

Logged on to catch up on Arnie and he's home !!! So pleased for you that he's back with you and getting stronger every day ... that's all the matters really isn't it. They break our hearts but what seems so awful to us quite passes them by ... one of my dachsies has Lafora's (a form of myoclonic epilepsy), is not in the best of health, and is unlikely to live past the age of 8, but I have to remember that he doesn't know that, he just happily takes each day as it comes, just as Arnie will.

Hugs to you and Arnie.

Annie

good morning :) glad to hear you both had a good night.Keep up the good work  Juliex :huggles:

Glad to hear Arnie is doing well and so are you Sarah
