Alsation went for him as OH was passing the shop with him (on lead). Dopey owner dropped the lead    Looks like a 3 or 4 stitch job, think it's only the skin though. Just off to the vet.

Poor Gelert :(

Lots of :huggles: to him and I hope the GSD owner is paying the bill.

Oh poor Gelert, and James too. :huggles:

  After all the discussion on here as well, poor Gelert - hope it goes well at the vet :huggles:

Yes :- " Someone who is considering a whippet as their next dog :- "

Got the full story from OH now. The dog rushed at him snarling and barking, and pulled the lead right out of her hand. Gelert reacted quickly and jumped the metal fence around the shop to escape but got caught up in it. Fortunately it did stop when she screamed at it otherwise it could have been far worse. It was in attack mode though.

Of course he'd had his breakfast, so they'll have to wait 3 hours to sedate him for stitching now. When we got there, there was a mastiffxrottweiler outside that the vet had refused to let in without a muzzle because it had been a problem. He was very good at the vets for once o:)

So sorry to hear that this has happened. As previously said I hope that the bill is being paid for you at the very least. :huggles:

The owner is actually a very nice person, but possibly not as sensitive to dog behaviour as she should be; I wouldn't be surprised if she does offer to pay.

The dog is often left tied up outside the shop with her child's buggy whilst she is inside, so probably slips into resource guarding mode, in the worst possible place where people with dogs are passing on to and fro on their way through to the Meadow or tying them up nearby whilst they do their shopping. It possibly feels very protective about the child too. The owner had her hands full of bags of shopping I think, and may also have been distracted by something the child was doing as well. I might have a quiet word with a mutual, very dog-savvy friend about it. I think she was quite shaken by it.
