My Sweet Baby Has Broken Her Neck

This is the second terrible piece of news recently and my heart goes out to you. I haven't had experience of this sort of injury but my little whippy cross, Tilly, was hit by a 4 wheel drive when she was two and suffered a broken leg, shattered diaphragm. all her organs were in her chest and collapsed lungs. My vet said she had very little chance of making it off the operating table and even if she did, only 50% of dogs suffering these types of injuries, go on to survive the following 24 hours. He also said that her internal injuries were some of the worst he'd seen.

I told him to do his best, (I wasn't prepare to lose her either) and 2 vets and 2 nurses worked on her for two hours. It was touch and go but, against all the odds, she pulled through although, sadly, she lost her hind leg. However, two years and 5 months later she is fit, fast and the most lovable rogue you could ever wish to meet.

Don't give up on your little girl, be positive, take it one day at a time and she has age on her side. I know Tilly's story isn't the same as Macey's but as someone has already said, they are tough little dogs. Keep us posted and GOOD LUCK. XXX

Checking in again to see if there is any more news, and I am delighted to hear that Macey is showing good reflexes and that there is a detailed diagnosis of her injuries

You may well have a long road to recovery in front of you but I know it will be worth it :huggles:

Sending lots of cuddles for your little girlie xxxxx

poor girl, what a shock, I'm so glad to hear there's been some improvement, fingers all crossed here hoping that she can do as well as Sienna, would never have believed it if I hadn't seen her video with my own eyes, sending you all lots of love and hope XXXXXX

Sendind prayers and so much love from Jo and Diesel...but it sounds already like fantastic news xxx

Spoke to someone this morning who said there was no chance in Macey this morning, But not spoken to the vet, she will call us at lunchtime so hopefully she will tell us some more.

Poor wee mite, she is so so missed.

Will keep you all posted and thanks again for your prayers. Please continue as I am worried she is not out of the woods yet, but I am a born natural worrier.

Linda xxx

Hi, best wishes to you at this awful time. I work in a vts and have seen dogs recover from broken necks, after referral to a specoalist and either surgery or a full body cast. They can get better though the process may be slow and steady, patience is the key. We are currently treating a cat shot through the spine with an airgun pellet - it is now about 6 weeks after surgery and he can walk aided and is improving day by day. The main thing is the reflexs - the strength comes later. This particular cat couldn't toilet or feel his tail or hind legs but they did come back. Hope this gives you some idea of the recovery time from spinal injuries and just don't expect too much too soon, any iprovement no matter how small is positive.

keeping our fingers crossed and sending you loads of positive thoughts, hang on there little girl :luck: :luck: :luck:

Not been on since yesterday lunchtime so lovely to come on and hear such positive news from you, I'm so pleased. Lesley will be a fantastic help as she has a lot of experience in this area and is an inspiration to us all with her patience and dedication to little Sienna.
