This is the second terrible piece of news recently and my heart goes out to you. I haven't had experience of this sort of injury but my little whippy cross, Tilly, was hit by a 4 wheel drive when she was two and suffered a broken leg, shattered diaphragm. all her organs were in her chest and collapsed lungs. My vet said she had very little chance of making it off the operating table and even if she did, only 50% of dogs suffering these types of injuries, go on to survive the following 24 hours. He also said that her internal injuries were some of the worst he'd seen.
I told him to do his best, (I wasn't prepare to lose her either) and 2 vets and 2 nurses worked on her for two hours. It was touch and go but, against all the odds, she pulled through although, sadly, she lost her hind leg. However, two years and 5 months later she is fit, fast and the most lovable rogue you could ever wish to meet.
Don't give up on your little girl, be positive, take it one day at a time and she has age on her side. I know Tilly's story isn't the same as Macey's but as someone has already said, they are tough little dogs. Keep us posted and GOOD LUCK. XXX
