IMO seeding should only be for the "genuine" left or right-hand runners. As regards bend racing I watch a lot of Greyhound racing and when the dogs are seeded W or M you will notice that (depending on how far the lure is in front of the dogs) wide runners are inclined to come in on the bends and then revert back wide on the straights - reason they are tracking the lure.

Seeding on the straights again IMO this often follows on in the breeding/litters. Say sire or dam are right/left hand runners and some of the litter follow suit. Take the last litter we bred. R.Ch. Saxon Honey - always raced wide on the bends and right on the straights. Her off-springs, 2 were left hand runners on the straights yet railed on the bends. 2 were right hand runners on the straights and W on the bends like the mother. Only one in the litter did not require seeding. I remember years ago, prior to lure racing, when it was "string" racing there was a dog at our local club who was a open class dog but was always being disqualified because he used to "jump" over the strings to favour his side. As soon as the strings were abolished and the lure racing came into being the same dog never got disqualified he just went to the side he favoured.

Also some people, when seeding their dogs, confuse the side the dogs run. Looking from the end of the race track down the dog is racing to that persons left and, therefore, the dog has been seeded left whereas it should have been right looking up the track and not down. Easy mistake for inexperienced racers. Dogs that are seeded should be closely monitored by "officials" and if, in their honest opinion, the dog doesn't need to be seeded then the owner should be told. I know we are no longer in the sport but after being in the racing for 35 years this is something that definitely needs looking into for safety reasons as I have seen bad accidents happen due to incorrect seeding.

Dee could you please explain what you mean by worse ?/ just for us thick folk

do you mean they went for the side as soon as they left the traps ---/or was it actually on the bend----/ or exiting the last bend before coming down the straight or if none of these what?

steve

Maybe we should have multiple seedings :- "

You know just so we know exactly what a dog does

Wide to Rail to Wide would be WRW maybe down the last straight too when dogs come wide off the bend and then move inwards down the last straight.

WRWR lol

Ooooh the combinations WWRR, RRWR etc. etc.

Chrystal blue came straight out to wide and at the 1st bend went wider taking another dogs path ...then ran along the wall on back straight

balljura ran the rail from start to finish , wonder he never had a paint strip on him

99.9 of dogs coming of the last bend get thrown out to middle to wide on highgate ballyjura didnt... another DVD morris young dog was other although he was thrown out a little he then came off last bend he then came straight over to the left and back onto rail

if i can get a screen capture off my DVD player will show you the dogs imprints on the sand

Coral was interesting to watch on one of the dvd too think it was 2007 bend champ

Game on been seeded wide and causing the most trouble in her race 07 bend champs think it was rapid stag and Annie hough that got the blunt of it :- "

Lots of young dogs running and losing it off last bend , nice to see how they improved over the winter this sunday

how about the national bodies seeding the dogs ,onced seeded the dog run with this seed at all opens. there could be three seeds left , mid , right and all dogs with the same seed run in the same race with the luck of the draw for traps

ELISE, DID I NOT SAY THAT WHE MY DOG TRAILS ON HIS OWN HE GOES STRAIT TO THE INSIDE RAIL,.. I COULD NOT GIVE A MONKEYS WHAT ANYONE HAS TO SAY ABOUT SEEDING, I KNOW MY OWN DOG, AND WHERE HE NEEDS TO BE, AND THE ONLY FACT THAT HE DID NOT GO STRAIT TO THE RAIL IN SATURDAYS RACE IS BECAUSE THE RED DOG WAS IN HIS WAY, WHAT WAS HE SUPPOSED TO DO.?SLOW UP A LITTLE SO HE COULD GET ROUND THE BACK OF IT.....

THE FURTHER AWAY FROM THE RED BOX HE IS DRAWN, THE MORE TROUBLE HE IS LIKLEY TO CAUSE..AND HE IS 61LB.. I KNOW MY DOG.....

AT HIGGATE THEY CHOPPED THE RAILS BACK FURTHER INTO THE FIELD JUST AFTER THE LAST BEND IN ORDER TO FIT SOME TRAPS THERE, IN THIS AREA THE SAND IS MUCH WIDER, BUT IF YOU DRAW AN IMAGINARY LINE WHERE THE RAILS USED TO BE, YOU WILL SEE THAT THE DOGS ARE NOT REALY GOING ANY WIDER ,THAN IT IS TO BE EXPECTED..

Typical that of you Maurice every one else has kept this in a light hearted form as requested in order to be of some help to others ---these are not rules !!! so don't think you have to break them lol

just a question ----How many races have you run with other scratch dogs /seasoned dogs i am talking about---/// not pups or yearlings ?? how many different traps have you exited --red /blue/ white /black /orange --whilst running with seasoned bend dogs.

reason i am asking is people have a different view as to how long it takes to know if seeding is required ---i never seed pups or yealings till i am sure what they are going to do and the system we run on the bends does not lend it self to seeding on a staggered start-- so it does not really apply---only off levels once a year maybe--

I also think that when pups run there should only be two in a race i know it would take longer but i think it would pay dividends in the long term you can watch two if one makes a mistake its easy to see what happens and rectify it --and this might help decrease wide running --who knows?

No need to shout at me Mr Rule Breaker 8) . I was just highlighting that people's opinions on seeding and what constitutes seeding can differ  yes opinions can really be different :sweating: .

I'm doing a Law degree and the importance of gaining all relevant information and all differing theorys in an "argument" are of high importance hence I stated several times "in the OPINION of some people" hence not necesarrily my personal view I was simply playing "devil's advocate".

Now no sulking or I might have to tell the Pie Man to get his whip out :b

It'll put a smile on my face ;)
