clear today [4/5/18], but chilly & windy; there's a steady breeze that suddenly becomes a hat-yanking, branch-snapping gust, roaring overhead.
In sheltered nooks with full sun, it's warm - U can take off yer coat & enjoy it. But anywhere the wind can reach U, it's 40' F & nippy, so not only coat but GLOVES go on, & stay on!

People sometimes ask why we get up and go so early.... Well this is the reason (apart from avoiding all the numptys). This morning the mist rolled across the lake and turned everything a slightly spooky blue colour, then when the sun came through it was a blaze of red that turned yellow and bathed everything in golden light. Well worth the early wake up ..

I can tell it's warm and sunny. I've been forced - forced I tell you! - outside to do some painting by SWMBO :D

It's freezing here. Despite the weather people telling us it's mild, it's not!

We had a long walk this morning - Jasper decided to go to Upton Heath, which is 1.1 miles away, and we bumped into a friend there so walked the long way round with her and her lurcher Ted. Ted is gregarious and wants to play with every dog he meets, whereas J rarely plays. J did get a bit grumpy with a very solid Staffie who bumped into him twice while playing with Ted, but I can't say I blame him:D

J also got a bit frisky with a female lab - lots of bum sniffing, and then a hopeful paw on her back, which she rebuked him for. He's tried to mount only a handful of dogs in his 8 years, including a couple of males, and she was neutered. I'd love to know what it is about the ones he takes a fancy to that attracts him, as he's obviously choosy.

He got loads of treats from Ted's owner. Ted needs to be recalled a LOT and though J is usually already next to us, he thinks that he deserves a reward for already being where Ted's meant to be :D And Ted's owner gives every dog she knows a treat so of course, J has to have one too ;)

That is exactly the same as Dennis! If we're ever out with a younger dog that needs constant recall and reward with a treat Dennis thinks he deserves one to even though he has never left my side :D

I had a whole day off today, no boarders and no walks, so I took Jake up to Hampshire (with my daughter and friend and picnic) to a place called Rotherlands, we spent many weekends and holidays up there staying with my inlaws as we could bring the ferrets, dogs, kids etc.. haven't been for 2 years since they both sadly passed away within 6months of each other...Was like a second home for us here, lovely being back but tinged with sadness, took it slow for Jake and did our usual walk, he even ventured into the river (was ready to jump in though incase he got stuck!)but all was good, home now, de-mudded and he's spark out in his bed...

OMG, Flobo, muck to the max! :D What an ankle-deep morass, did U have any shoes sucked off?!

Nonetheless, it looks as if the dog had a terrific time. :)

Haha yes just a tad muddy! No shoes sucked off but wellies full of water for the girls reliving their younger days jumping in very muddy puddles!! And one using a rope swing over the river that probably had the same stick in it from the last time they used it so obviously it broke and she ended up in the river!(was shallow so nothing too bad:D).
Was lovely for Jake, though at one point he laid in the grass and looked like he wasn't going to get up again until he'd had a snooze and recouped! But yes a worthy day off for all;)

We packed out sandwiches and a flask and Murphy had water and treats and we drove to the Unesco world heritage site at lauwersoog (part of the Waddensea area) we saw deer, rabbits, hawks, lapwings, oyster catchers, geese a colony of cormorants and cattle that graze along the waters edge. Murphy had a great time except for some adventure team builder types who had decided the only place they could possibly hold their adventure day was on the only dog beach in the area! Bah !
