>Not sure where this is going  but are you saying the likes of myself shouldnt be putting pictures of my puppies ( or older dogs for that matter) on here for people to see, and that Im just doing it to `get sales`  . The reason NO ONE knew I was having this litter was for much the same reason , I dont need to tout ( SP) for homes on here , I had 5 puppies already booked , but I thought fellow whippet lovers JUST MIGHT like to see my pretty Buffee puppies , .
Are you referring to what I've said?  This is what I said.

For me I don't see why it's not enough for someone to say that I'm breeding so and so ie mating planned. Or look at so and so's pups. End of. If people are interested in having a pup then they can pm the breeder.

Which as far as I can see you've done.  ie just put photos of your puppies on here for people to see.  That's not blatent advertising of a litter for sale is it.

What I'm not comfortable about is the few breeders who come on here and only ever post when they are advertising a litter for sale. But they aren't breaking any board rules and a lot of other people may find it very helpful in getting them a puppy.  It's a service.

>As Beejay gets the suppliment , Im sure she notices that some kennels have that amount in a year  One certain person had 3 litters in the third quarter of 2005

I repeat what I said earlier.

It also gets me when I see very good breeders of whippets ie caring and very particular sorts getting trashed on here just 'cause they are so particular about where their pups go. And breeders who are churning them out, well I'd know 'em because I take the Breed Record Supplements so know how many registered whippets pups people are breeding getting praised as if they are the great I am.

There are breeders on here advertising who don't just breed whippets but other breeds as well.  So if someone is breeding several litters a year from different breeds and they aren't a top kennel in what ever field.  What does that make them.  Someone who likes to breed puppies I suppose.

>Not everyone who whats a certain breed have the know how about breed clubs etc just becasue we do

It's called doing your research into a breed.  It's in all of the good dog books, it's recommended by the KC etc etc.  If you like the look of a breed of dog 1) find out more about it.  How do you do that contact the KC and they'll pass on the contact details of the breed club.

People have said it over and over again on here.  If you want to buy a puppy then talk to the breed people.  That way any puppies for sale come up word of mouth.  Get to know the breeders first.  Puppy buyers should do some work as part of a way of showing committment and that it hasn't just been a rash decision to get a whippet.  Well I think so anyway.

I feel the same way Beejay . maybe I miss interpreted what you had put :huggles:

World WAR 3 has not yet started , cos we all have the same interests at heart , OUR WHIPPETS

I agree, in that I dont like to think of ANY puppies being advertised in such a fashion , the breeder so OBVIOUSLY dosnt give 2 hoots about where her puppies are going does she

I think that the most important thing, when finding homes for your precious pups, is that you spendy plenty of time chatting to the propective new owner/s. I believe that way you get a good feel whether someone is the right person for a pup. Hopefully when they come to see the pups you will then get to spend some more time with them and watch the way they interact with your dogs. I've only just bred the one litter, but to me it was a huge responsibility to make sure that each pup had the very best home I could find them. I also made the commitment to take back any pup at any time in its life in necessary.

We always let potential new owners meet our older dogs first, if they dont get along with them we dont let them see the pups, we turned quite a few away using this method, if they dont like the older dogs what are they going to do when there puppy grows up. But then again we have had 2 returned to us that we thought had excellent homes, so there are no guarantees, just go with gut instinct. We also have a guarentee that we will take back any dog that we breed, one owner has actually written in his will that we are to have the dog back if he goes first, which we thought was really sweet.

Agree with you there Paula , I love nothing better than to see future whippet owners get down and sit on the floor with my gang. How they react to 10 (w00t) of them leaping all around is a good indecation(sp) of how `dog minded` they are . Any one who sits `pert` on the settee brushing away dogs and dog hair are not going to get one of my puppies , thats for sure ;)

Superbly bred WHIPPET puppies, KC Registered with excellent pedigree, great lines, both parents can be seen, insured, vet checked, dew claws removed, wormed to date, microchipped and infomation pack. Will deliver at cost. Lovely litter of bold, healthy puppies.I am goin to Africa on 27th jan till 4th feb , my hubby crap on pc so please ring him if ur interested in puppies , xxxxim sure that isnt quite what she meant (w00t)

i think what people must remember is that not everybody who wants a whippet is lucky enough to be apart of the whippet community(racing, showing and working).ive had whippets now for 15 years but when i lost beth i found the only way to locate one was through local papers and the internet. saying that it really does concern me that they seem happy to deliver to a people they have never met.

While that's true, Tony, there are plenty of dog magazines out there who all give advice on finding the right puppy/breed for you and generally they all give the same advice too! There really is no excuse for people not doing their homework. I include myself in this as I've been guilty of going about things in the wrong way in the past. :(

I have a young friend at the moment who is desperate for a dog and is looking at the internet and magazines. He's being seduced by all the exotic breeds out there, some of which would be blatantly unsuited to his family and lifestyle. I'm doing my best to point him in the right direction and suggesting that he talks to breeders/rescues first. Luckily his mother is a very good friend of mine so between us we'll make sure he gets it right! :D

I agree with Beejay about good breeders being shot down for having a strict approach to homing their puppies. If more people were like them in the first place there would be far fewer dogs in rescue generally. If people are put off by the approach of these breeders then hasn't their argument been proven? We don't have a "right" to own one of their pups after all. :)

What worries me as much as obtaining puppies too readily is the ever increasing number of "false" rescue stories we're getting now. It's running the risk of genuine rescue animals being overlooked, or people being put off getting a rescue, because they no longer believe it's authentic. :( If you want to sell your dog, sell it! Don't pretend it's a rescue and then ask money for it! If it really is a rescue, go to a legitimate rescue and ask them to home it, even if it stays in your home in the meantime. Rescues are crying out for fosterers after all!

in my case i knew what puppy/breed i wanted,my point was the first place you look for dog is local paper and internet for the breed you want to buy.just because breeder sells this way it does not mean thet will sell to anybody or do the relevent checks, although i will concede that a lot will.

i will say that whilst looking for my whippet there were alot of fashionable pups for sale, lots of staffies so i do take your point that it would be easy to chose an unsuitable dog
